Description I'm not even sure what it originally was. I received it already as bones... The ribcage was unfortunately damaged but, hey, my necromantic skills brought this fellow back !

maybe, i"m thinking it was a sea bird rather than one that flies far distances

Birds have rather small wings, most of the flight surface is composed of feathers after all

Cute, maybe it´s a duckling or seabird, but not grown yet.

Well i don't really think so, as ducks have quite different beaks and there isn't any sea in about 1000 kilometers It coulb e young but the skeleton seems quite ossified fore such a youngling so i think it's just some small species.

Awesome! I see you've got a quite impressive collection of bird of prey skulls back there...

Are you familiar with the work of Hyungkoo Lee? He made some pretty fantastic skeletons for cartooon animals such as Tweety

In tthe cackground you can see the skulls of hawk, dog, cat, badger and a fox.

Nice stuff.  I, in fact plan to create skeletal hybrids in rhe future, somewhat in the spirit of Cornelius' Meyer dragon.

I've got a skull of a cat too btw

Awesome! I've had similar plans once but my collection is not yet big enough

Cool, I’m looking forward to seeing it

Where are your bones from? Did you find them or are they bought?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to juniorWoodchuck [2014-01-01 20:38:04 +0000 UTC]

I have various sources. Some I buy, some I find or get as gifts. "when my cat will die I will give it to you - that's what i heard recently ) If you are desperate to get bones, you can as well go to some pet shop, that has snakes in offer - they will suerly have some frozen rats and mice in stock as snake food. Therefore you get a bonus dissection to do

Bird skeletons are fragile. Take great care of it !

One I have is of a brown thrasher. I identified it while it still had feathers on it. Museum beetles gnawed them off since...

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to EmmetEarwax [2014-05-18 07:23:30 +0000 UTC]

I know and I am very careful.

I guess it looks better wthout them. I remove the remains of feathers with hydrogen peroxide. It also gives the bones nice white colour.

I almost left the theater during this bloody scene. I have never walked out on a theater movie while it still was unreeling, but on television  I've done that ...

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to EmmetEarwax [2014-03-31 19:06:56 +0000 UTC]

Really? I think that scene was more comical.

My mom once lef the thether, while watching Alien, in particulalry the birth scene. But she came back!

EmmetEarwax In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2014-03-31 23:54:15 +0000 UTC]

Have you noticed in "Alien", in the 2 violent scenes, a small bobbing toy bird was on a table. The birth scene, and the android crew-member trying to kill Ripley, (winding up with his head knocked off !).

My mother left during a showing of "The Passion of Christ" many years ago, and stayed in the lady's room until the movie was over. She was tired of the beatings and whippings, on & on & on. My father later said "I know now not to take you to this kind of movie". YET many years later, she & father went to see "The Devils" and left early because it was ... Don't know WHY they went to see that ...

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to EmmetEarwax [2014-04-24 08:29:46 +0000 UTC]

Ah yeah, I remember those scenes well. I've managed to get to see the first two movies recently in the cinema

EmmetEarwax In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2014-04-24 11:55:31 +0000 UTC]

I am not sure -not sure at all- whether you understood what I was saying. Maybe I was going on garbled memory, but my folks died years ago, and so I can not ask them.

The movie "The passion of Christ" was years before 1945, in the 30's, when my parents were courting. Dad took my future mother to this film, and she spent most of it in the lady's room (I used the scene in one of my fan-fics,the heroine unable to deal with violent Japanese epics *)

When my folks attempted to watch "The Devils" I was by then alive. In fact I was working at a college, and my folks came into the city and would take me home after they saw the movie. To my surprise ,they came back early, maybe within an hour, and told me they could not take any more of that film. They probably sat around the prep room until my shift was over.

* Set in the closing years of the 16th century when the emperor had no power, there was no shogun, and it was every warlord for himself ! Everything from helmets -with the heads still in them- flying through the air, and cannibalism ! When the hero was killed on the battlefield and his head brought back to him, the eyes opened and the head addressed the warlord "Greetings ! I am Kagemura !" Men shouted, women screamed and fainted.
