Description The date was August 10, in the year 2010 Anno Domini, the Great Germanian Empire had just declared war on Japan. The far east island nation had held fast to its neutrality and now Germania looms as the world’s only Superpower. Rights to Japan’s underground resources became a hotly disputed issue straining the already deep rooted diplomatic tensions between the two states. In the deciding battle for the mainland, Germanian forces introduced into combat the humanoid autonomous armored vehicle known as the Mechanischer Kampfroboter. The Japanese forces were far greater than anticipated however the Kampfroboters obliterated their line of defense on the mainland with little effort. Japan became a dominion of the Kaiserreich, the country was stripped of its freedom, its rights, and its name, as the defeated nation was rechristened as the Nordostasien Reichskommissariat.

Nearly a century has passed since Germany and the Central Powers triumphed in the First Weltkrieg, the aftermath of which saw the rise of the German Empire as a global superpower and a wave of Marxist Revolutionary movements in Western Europe. Following the collapse of the Berlin Stock Exchange in 1936 the world was once again thrown into chaos which ultimately culminated in the outbreak of the Second Weltkrieg in March of 1938. After five years of bloody fighting, the German Empire proved once more victorious though now found itself in a world that was forever changed, deeply scarred by the horrific conflict and rivaled by two new powers in the form of the American People’s Empire and Russian Commonwealth of Free Republics. Both would compete with the German Empire all over the world for power and influence in the decades which followed. With the death of Kaiser Wilhelm III in July of 1951, the political landscape of the German Empire was shaken by the immediate deposition of his son Louis Ferdinand via a Palace Coup, the second son of the Kaiser who’s older brother the Crown Prince had been killed in the war, and who himself was greatly unpopular by much of the military and Prussian nobility due to his outspoken Liberal views. The man who would seize the throne during this crisis was none other than the 34 year old Field Marshal Prince Karl Franz, the son of Prince Joachim and a figure who enjoyed widespread popularity from the military due to his distinguished service as an armored commander in the war. His wife, the Anglo-Dutch Noblewoman Edda van Heemstra was popular in her own right for her post-war charity work and patronage of artists across the Continent. With the support of his aunt, Queen Victoria Louise of France, his friend and mentor, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, and the political backing of Imperial Chancellor Manfred von Richthofen, Karl emerged from the deposition crisis as the new German Kaiser. With the sudden death of the Austrian Emperor Charles in 1948, the ongoing war in Hungary and the Balkans became much dire for the Austrian Empire leading to the newly crowned Emperor Otto repeatedly requesting German Intervention but being refused each time by Wilhelm III. Then in September of 1951, with the combined Hungarian-Belgrade Pact armies at the gates of Vienna, Kaiser Karl sent German forces into the Austrian Empire, placing Austria and Bohemia under military occupation. Then personally leading an offensive which in less than three months saw the complete capitulation of Hungary and the Belgrade Pact as the map of the Balkans was redrawn along its pre-Fourth Balkan War borders, with minor Bulgarian territorial concessions. However Inviting the Germans into Austria proved detrimental to the Habsburg Monarchy as the Kaiser had no intention of withdrawing and instead marched his troops into Vienna proclaiming the final unification of the German people under a new Greater Germanian Empire, as well as the founding of a new dynasty, the Imperial House of Germania. With the dissolution and subjugation of the former Austrian Empire, all of mainland Europe was now aligned to or a protectorate of the Great Germanian Empire with the exception of Spain and Portugal, both of which maintained good relations with the Empire, And the Kingdom of Sicily, an Ultra-Traditionalist pariah state in Southern Italy.

Meanwhile across the Atlantic, the Second American Civil War ended in victory for the Combined Syndicates of America. With a tense peace finally being established in early 1939. Jack Reed stepped down from his role as leader of the country As the new Syndicalist Congress debated over whether Earl Browder or William Z. Foster should assume the Presidency, a third figure had secretly been using his connections to organized crime and his growing cult of personality to seize power for himself. Enter Alphonse Gabriel, better known as the notorious Chicago gangster Al Capone, Capone had done much to strengthen the CSA’s cause prior to and during the civil war through his criminal activities, his ruthlessness combined with his cunning would finally lead to Capone intimidating key members of Congress to support him in his bid for the Presidency. After calling for a Second Constitutional Convention, Capone would attain greater executive and judicial power as he assumed the newly created office of Grand Commissar and taking the new name Giorgio Alphonse Dell’Americo, he was subsequently proclaimed by the American people as the new Founding Father of the nation. While paying lip service to the ideals of the Syndicalist Revolution, Capone in reality cared only for improving the general welfare of the People rather than any of the grand ideals of men such as Browder and Foster, instead Capone implemented a policy of issuing every American a monthly dole of Milk, Bread, Meat, and Eggs at the State’s expense, ordered the construction of public housing blocks across the country, and created a national health service for all citizens. To guard against his political opponents and reactionary elements, Capone created the Commissariat Secret Service or better known as “The Triggermen” an elite unit made up exclusively of Americans from Italian descent which would act as both the personal guard and secret police for the Grand Commissar. The Central Committee was established not long after Capone’s ascension and served as an advisory cabinet to the Grand Commissar made up of officials both talented and most loyal to him personally. The New America forged by Capone in the aftermath of the Civil War would go on to be led by his family up to the present day, with the nation now known as the American People’s Empire coming to dominate the North and South American Continents. The People’s Empire is currently led by the 10 year old Maria Aurora Dell’Americo, the 5th Grand Commissar who came to power after being appointed by the Central Committee as an easily controlled puppet Commissar following the suspicious death of her father and older brother.

Following the assassination of Alexander Kerensky in early 1936, the fledgling Russian Republic was thrown into chaos as the country was threaten by both a resurgent bolshevik movement as well as the ambitions of powerful generals who sought to use the troops under their command to seize control of the state for themselves. A resolution to the crisis finally came when the Russian Senate elevated their Speaker and former Grand Duke, Dmitri Pavlovich Romanov as the first Prince-President of a new Russian Commonwealth. The reorganized Russian government opted to remain neutral in world affairs as it first sought to resolve the country’s domestic situation before once again stepping out onto the world stage. Dmitri proved a capable leader and was greatly respected by military and civil officials from all across the political spectrum and he managed to peacefully reintegrate Alash Orda and the Don-Kuban Union into the Russian Commonwealth while also reforming the military and deterring foreign aggression. With Japan attempting to seize control over East Asia and the Pacific in 1941, Russia would join in an alliance with Germany to curb Japanese Aggression in the Pacific Theater of the Second Weltkrieg, ultimately emerging victorious and re-annexing much of it’s lost far eastern territory along with the cededing of Manchuria and Korea to Russia’s sphere of influence. However, Dmitri himself would not live to see the conflict’s end, falling ill and passing away in March of 1942. The nation mourned Dmitri’s loss but nonetheless continued on to final victory. In the years that followed without a strong central figure capable of commanding respect and of personal renowned, such as that of Kerensky or Romanov, Democracy in Russia rapidly gave way to Oligarchy as the country’s wealthy elites used their fortunes to manipulate policy in their favor at the expense of the rest of the nation’s people who experienced a stark decline in prosperity and standard of living in the coming decades. In spite of internal civil unrest Russia remains a major player in world affairs, proclaiming itself a bastion of Democracy. A crusader state for the freedom and liberty of all people and nations in contrast to the Authoritarian Democracy of the Great Germanian Empire and that of Capone’s Totalist hybrid ideology of the People’s Empire. Thus by the mid 1950s the stage was set for a long power struggle for control of the planet which continues on to the present day.

Due to the advent of Nuclear Weapons by Germany in 1943, and subsequent threat of Mutually Assured Destruction, conflicts fought by the three world powers in this period were often done indirectly through the use of proxies while the great powers themselves proceeded to develop their own nuclear arsenals, accumulating massive stockpiles in the years that followed the end of the Second Weltkrieg. The People’s Empire tested their first Atomic Bomb in 1949 followed by the Russian Commonwealth in 1950, marking the beginning of the Nuclear Age, which saw great advancements in Science and Technology fueled by the power of the Atom, only to then be accelerated by the discovery of a superconductive mineral in Japan which would come to be known as Sakuradite. This mineral derived from volcanic rock, rapidly came to become more valuable than oil and allowed for the development of the first Cold Fusion reactors which would go into widespread use by the early 1980s. However a problem emerged at the dawn of the 21st Century as the demand for Sakuradite was beginning to drain the available reserves controlled by the three powers. As the largest exporter of Sakuradite, Japan used it’s newfound wealth to rebuild the country in the aftermath of the Pacific War, the conflict of which saw the destruction of the Japanese Co-Prosperity Sphere at the hands of Germany and Russia. Japan also used its monopoly over Sakuradite to influence world politics and play the three powers against each other in courting protection from whichever state stood as the strongest at the time. This policy would eventually backfire in the late 2000s when the scorned People’s Empire refused to come to Japan's aid as it was threatened by the Great Germanian Empire and Russian Commonwealth, with both states demanding greater concessions from Japan in granting their respective mining companies rights to rich deposits of Sakuradite within Japanese territory. In July of 2010, the election of that year saw a new Nationalistic government take power which immediately declared Japan closed to the world once again and proceeded to arrest foreign citizens living in the country. The act sparked a crisis which led to Germania’s invasion of the island nation less than a month later. Russia would subsequently launch its own invasion, occupying the island of Hokkaido in the North and proclaiming it the Ezo Protectorate. Several years following the Russo-Germanian Invasion of Japan, a new crisis has been sparked by the assassination of the Reich’s Commisioner of Nordostasien and Imperial Prince Conrad von Germania. Little did the Imperial Authorities know at the time but the assassination of Conrad was perpetrated by his exiled and long believed deceased half brother Prince Lothardt von Germania.

Eight years prior, With his mother being killed in a terrorist attack on the Imperial Palace, and his younger sister Nadine left blinded and crippled, a barely 10 year old Lothardt demanded an audience with his father Kaiser Karl II. There in front of the court, the young Lothardt accused his father of not doing enough to protect his mother and sister, causing a scene which led to the Kaiser sending Lothardt and Nadine into exile from Germania. Being granted asylum by Japan, the Japanese government at the time hoped to use the two as pawns to deter Germanian military action against the country. When Japan was invaded less than a year later, it was widely believed Lothardt and his sister had been killed. Now in the year 2017 Lothardt and Nadine live under false identities under the protection of a sympathetic Germanian noble family in Nordostasien. Here Lothardt has grown into a capable and ambitious young prodigy wishing to exact vengeance against his father and the family that betrayed him while also bringing about a better world for his sister, though with little to no power and influence, Lothardt believed he would never be capable of achieving his goal, that was until a chance encounter with a green haired girl and run in with a ragtag militia of Japanese rebels. Several months have since passed and now Lothardt disguised as the masked terrorist Zero, leads an organization known as the Kuro Kishi in an Asymmetrical War against the new Reich’s Commissioner, his half sister Constance, to liberate Japan and launch a global crusade to bring down all three powers and bring about a new world order. However despite his successes thus far, a decisive victory for Lothardt continues to fall just out of reach by the repeated last minute deployment of Germania’s experimental Kampfroboter Arminius, and it’s exceptional young pilot Suzaku Kururugi.
