Yeah he appears in the third game, the first game may be hard to find for the DS, but all three are available for download on the Wii for 10 bucks each

the first three games were re-released as WiiWare titles, with the Wiimote's IR sensor replacing the touch screen and stylus

Then of course it's worth noting that the first 3 games were originally released in Japan on the GBA and then ported to the DS at the same time they were brought over here
