The rock pillars of Meteora (not the Linkin Park album)
"The Metéora (Greek: Μετέωρα, "suspended rocks", "suspended in the air" or "in the heavens above") is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece." ~ from wiki
Our first sunset the first afternoon we got there and I guess the only decent sunset we had the five days we were there.

Is the 17-35 f2.8 the best choice for UWA? Wouldn't be the 16-35 f/4 better for stopped down work? Just curious, I'm a DX shooter myself.

yes the 4 stop is expensive but well worth the money.
If you are doing filter work like me then yes stopped down the 16-35 has better IQ, and justifiable so cause it is a much younger lens. The f/2.8 is a great advantage for indoors though which I sometimes use.
if you don't use filters and you blend your exposures then the 14-24 is a far better lens than the above two even wide open and since you are a DX user it will still be a UWA including the crop factor.

really a sublime looking place!...almost fantasy like....the scale of the mountain/precipice on which the monastery sits on really comes into perspective here....impressive photograph!.
