Our latest find or as AndyMumford calls it another image for our "drunken ship driving in Greece series"
This the cargo ship Semiramis washed out at the shores of Andros island after being abandoned at sea after a mechanical failure during a storm. I am still looking into more details about it will update once I do find.
Anyway, a bitch of a capture cause I wanted a really long exposure for the clouds to form lines towards the center but the wind was ferocious and the sea spray was getting the filter spotted after each wave crush. I acted as a human shield as much as I could and fortunately the result was usable

Πάμε μια εξήγηση λοιπόν για το πως το φτιάξαμε. η μεγάλη έκθεση δεν μπορεί να εξομοιωθεί με το photoshop. είναι αποτέλεσμα από ένα φίλτρο ουδέτερης πυκνότητας το οποίο μπαίνει μπροστά στον φακό και κόβει ένα ποσοστό από το φως που περνάει στον αισθητήρα έτσι ώστε να χρειάζεται μεγαλύτερος χρόνος ώστε να πάρει το ίδιο ποσό φωτός. Είναι λίγο ακαταλαβίστικα ίσως το καταλάβεις καλύτερα σε ένα άρθρο που έχω γράψει εδώ.

What kind of filters your advice me to buy ?

for landscape work you will need a Polarizing filter, ND filters of various densities for longer exposures and if you can't be bothered with image blending then you will need ND grads as well. Both soft and hard grads and even reverse grads.

since you are in europe look for Lee filters. There are the best quality around.

A shorter exposure will capture more movement? This is a paradox. I think you mean textures! I didn't want any textures but the ones of the ship and the rocks and 2 to 6 seconds exposure wouldn't allow me to achieve that. 8 min is a tad too long but I didn't have any six stop ND so I had to use the big stopper

A very long exposure flattens the sea. 2 or so seconds will capture the movement of the waves. Dont get me wrong, a very beautiful image, much better than mine, but was just an idea

Trying to find more info for this ship I found out that there are two or three more wrecks in those waters, unfortunately sunk. I think Andy has a point here

when the water is calm you can see the anchor laying on the seabed

Come on...you do seem to have a rather large quantity of shipwrecks in that country. I know I know, you've got lots of islands and stuff, but Portugal is a seafaring nation with it's fair share of hazardous rocks, and I can't find any shipwrecks here (there are some crappy sunken boats near docks, but they are for the most part, ugly to photograph).
So it must be the ouzo. Or the retsina.
Do you ever come across the captains, sitting in cafe's, saying to anyone who'll listen "I just didn't see the land infront of the ship, it came out of nowhere!!"
(serious edit: I actually think it's the calmness of the waters in Greece...shipwrecks probably stay around longer, whereas here, where the sea is a lot more aggressive, things get battered to small pieces in no time at all)
So, this is a lovely shot and a great addition to the serious. B+W works really well, I lke the rocks in the foreground a lot.
Great work, and looking forward to the next drunken shipwreck you two come across.

Definitely the Atlantic has more power but we have another ace up our sleeves. Greek government doesn't give a toss about them so they don't get salvaged for scrap.
