Description Well, got me in the mood to draw some centaurs again (not that I usually need my arm twisted or anything to draw centaurs), so I spent some time having some fun and playing around with my Medani centaurs.

Top left: a mama centaur and her colt.

Top right: Big ol' draft-type centaur, just taking a break from a hard day's work. He looks like he'd be the cuddly type of guy.

Mid left: That one just makes me smile. Hey, centaurs need to stretch, too.

Mid right: Well, last time I did centaur sketches, I had a feeling he was going to become a character... and he did. Kiraz has some sort of history with Trev, but I'm still working that out. No armor this time, so he's either sparring or got surprised. Very fun pose to do. I plan on coloring it, hence the ink.

Bottom left: Another lady centaur, this time an archer. Went for a more Mongol-type bow. Again, considering coloring this one.

Bottom right: Soooomebody's not happy! He's also blushing, so probably dealing with some insufferable flirt.

Might color a few more of these, but for now, just starting with Kiraz.

Absolutely love your sketches. In particular, I like how flexible their 'ankles' seem to be and how fluid your lines are. I hope you don't mind, but I referenced your drawings in a self-made art course (giving credit to the original of course!)

I bet! I hope to try out a few more centaur posesΒ in the future as well, though I wonder how the characters I draw will adjust to them, with their body types (one is a very chubby older Star Trek character I've suddenly decided to make up a centaur form for, and one is my OC IΒ often draw with him as his adoptive daughter, who in centaur form isΒ a teeny-tiny Shetland pony type! )

*laughs* Funny you should mention the heavier-set pony-type centaurs... I included one in the centaur sketches I just posted yesterday! I think your OCs should be fine. Good luck with them! ^_^

*laughs* Well, he's definitely got a personality, and someday he might be a full-fledged character, but for now, he's just a random sketch. I'll keep him in mind for the next time I want to do some coloring practice.

I've always wanted to draw one, but I've never liked how they've come out. I kind of fail ar drawing animals. XDD

My favorites are the mid right and the bottom right. The mid right is amazing because of the fluid motion, and the bottom right is just adorable.

Seeing some of the sketch work beneath the centaurs will be exceedingly helpful.

Oh, and I've done two more centaur pictures. I told you of the messed up one, but I have one I think wont need any editing to get it to look right! Yeah me! All my practice paid off in the end... seen as the one that came out good is for someone else...

I kinda hope you don't mind, but I am going to be kinda stealing the bottom right pose. I have had that one in my head from the start, but couldn't figure out how it would work yet!

I don't know how you knew I was looking for that pose, but you got it spot on!

(Not really stealing it... but I will be doing some major referencing to it. AS I said, that pose was haunting me for probably a week now with no end in sight.)

Actually, they have been a huge help. I was going to go on a picture search for hooves, but you provided me with an answer with this perfectly timed sketch work of yours.


Oh, and looks like you really didn't need much practice! I agree with someone else here, you make it look easy to attach the human torso in a manner that looks like it belongs. I'm hoping I'm pulling that look off myself, but I'm not sure. Only one way to find out... TO DRAWING! *Sticks pencil in the air like a sword*

*laughs* There's always a need for practice. No other way to get better, after all, and besides, it's fun. ^^

I guess the best way to think about the human/horse melding is to NOT think of it as a melding. It's a centaur - you just have to think of it as a whole.

As for poses, honestly, the easiest way to get ideas for centaur poses is to just look at a lot of horse photos. You might be surprised what you come up with.
