Description
When an elf has an important question, she goes to the Vision Rock at sunrise. The Queen has commanded her favorite mage to discover the future fate of her lands. But what is this nonsense? How can she bring word to the Queen, when none of it makes sense? A weird-looking, oddly colored male, with a... a... thing beside him, and a setting that was distinctly unrelated to anything she knew... Oh, the Queen's going to be pissed!Inspiration provided by SickleYield and her The Render Inspiration GameSomeone's comment gave me this idea!
There is nothing new under the sun, but there are infinite combinations of what exists. Thus, when you are out of ideas but want to render something, play the Render Inspiration Game!
First download this chart. It's available in .jpg or .pdf format.
Next go to this site and roll 10d10, or 9d10 if your hardware does not allow for the Difficulty Bonus. If you roll a 1 for score for column 3 (number of characters) you won't need the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th, of course.
Use those numbers on the chart. A score of 3 for the first column, Genre, returns the result Noir, for instance.
Make a render using the terms you came up with. My first roll is 6, 6, 1, 5, 3, 2, 8, 9, 1, 8.
This results in:
Horror, 3 characters, 1 male, 1 female, 1 other, 1 human, 1 scaly, 1 undead, Domestic, Day, Visi. I rolled 7, 9, 1, 1, 8, 3, 10, 1, 10, 7, 3. Which translates to: fantasy, 3 characters, male, male, female, alien, robot, elf, work, sunrise, multi-hairs. Wasn't able to work in the multiple hairs, because I wanted my alien to have a crest. And the chick in the hood really is an elf, I swear! But I've never used an elf character before, so I had no idea how to get the hair to work properly. Even the Lady Elf Hair kept sticking quite firmly to the ears. *sigh* So I hid both ears and hair under a hood.

That's so much fun 
As for elf ears, what you have to do is:
- select the hair and go to Parameter tab;
- select the topmost level there so as to catch all the channels in the search;
- enable "show hidden properties";
- in the search field, type the name of the offending morphs of the original figure (parts of the name work, like "elv" will bring up "elven");
- you will see those hidden morphs in the hair that match those ear morphs of the figure (these were generated by autofit);
- dial them down to 0.
Then the ears will be back to sticking out through the hair without messing it all up. You may want to try fiddling with other morphs or deformers, to get a better look.

Oh, thank you!!! Not that I mess around with elves much, obviously, but I do intend to use them again in the future. And now I can. Instructions are going straight into my note file!
