Oh, we imagine exactly the same way.
I recall there was a shortish description of him in the HoME somewhere. I can't remember it well, but it mentioned something about thin mouth and a wry smile. And in Silm too it was mentioned he's a good talker, but in a more calm, persuasive way. All that in mind, he doesn't really remind me of Fëanor at all, no matter what Tolkien wrote about them being just alike.
I mean c'moon. Fëanor is always portrayed as being a very passionate, hot headed, impulsive guy who moves from an idea to doing it in a heartbeat, and always speaks out his mind and what he really thinks about the people around him. Often without thinking twice before acting, and therefore getting himself into a mighty trouble. But he wants to do everything himself and without any help, and is ready to put himself into an immense danger. Curufin? He sneaks around and makes cunning schemes where he makes the others to do the dirty work while he himself stays in the maxium security, subtly manipulating other people's fears while appearing nice and friendly.
Just think of how they went down. Fëanor wanted to battle with Morgoth mano-a-mano and was so eager to get to it he just mindlessly pulled off a Leeroy Jenkins and left all his troops behind. Oh, some balrogs here? Watch me fight while I burn and LAUGH like a madman. MUAH HAH HAH HAAAA! Yeah. Now what Curufin did? Made an elobrate scheme of gaining the control of all the Elven realms (and armies) of Beleriand via marriage and fooling the ruling lords to getting themselves killed. YEAH...

Thank you, sister.
It's very much appreciated that when I expose my vulnerable soul and blabber out all these silly things I keep close to my heart, there actually are others out there who tolerate or perhaps even like what I say.
Also, in the real life I'm a loser, so it's nice to know MY TOLKIEN-FU IS STRONG - even though I'm never actually going to need Tolkien-fu in anything useful.

MaitimohasanawesomenamexD Well, except his father-name. It's a little confusing. (Technically the third Finwe is Fingolfin, isn't it?)

Feanor was too stubborn to allow Fingolfin take over the "Finwe the thrid" >_>

Or maybe Feanor was thinking about who would inherit the High King title...Then I guess Nelyo's name works for about five minutes.

I doubt Feanor was thinking about inheriting cuz elves don't die (until he made that ruddy jewels)... or just expressing pure hatred to his half brothers I dunno
Someone call back Miriel and make Feanor get a time out!

Or maybe Maedhros was born before Fingolfin? O.O
I feel sorry for Miriel D: First she dies, then she can't come back before her husband was selfish wanted to marry someone else. *sigh*

No, when Maedhros gave up the crown he said Fingolfin was the oldest (of the House of Finwë).
It seems Fëanor and Fingolfin had a habit of insulting each other with names. Finwë named his firstborn as Curufinwë = Skilled Finwë to show off his royal heritage. After he remarried in such a overly dramatic way, he named his two new sons as Ñolofinwë = Wise Finwë and Arafinwë = Noble Finwë to put them on the same line as Fëanor/Curufinwë. Fëanor who dissapproved both of the remarriage and his half-siblings then basically slapped them on the face by naming his own firstborn as "Finwë the Third". By this he passive-aggresively said "Scr*w you imposers, you're not part of this family and not my brothers".
And much later, when the battle between Fëanor and Fingolfin for the right to inherit Finwë escalated more and more, Fingolfin remodeled his name Ñolofinwë into Finwë Ñolofinwë to drive the point home. (Notice how for the Ñoldor Elves the name "Finwë" seems to have come to mean something equal to "king".) Tolkien wrote in a sidenote that Fingolfin's self re-naming was a big motivation for Fëanor to betray him and leave him to Araman, as the new name obviously ment Fingolfin was going for the crown.
This is also how we got the names Fingolfin and Finarfin. Finwë Ñolofinwë > FINgolFIN and Finwë Arafinwë > FINarFIN. Finarfin added the extra "finwë" into his name at the same time as his brother did, probably to show support.
Oh, and the source for this is HoME vol. 12, the essay "The Shibboleth of Fëanor".
*creeps away to Tolkienerd elsewhere*

DSANGN HOW OLD IS THIS GUY
I kno right? Poor Miriel... but elves are too paranoid about divorce and second marriage and all.... wonder how they will react when they learn that in our world, there's a guy who has 50+ wives and 100+ children
