Description Yeah uh I know it's a bit late for Halloween stuff, but this is just my Halloween blanket :3
This is Shadow, my baby rat born October 19. I didn't post anything about him, because he was the only one born alive out of 9 babies.
Cloud gave birth to them a week early. He was so tiny. I'll post more pictures eventually, I'm just really swamped with work and I'm usually too tired to do much.

He has either a tumor or a hernia [did I spell that right?] where his "belly button" is the size of a dime, and it's blackish purple inside. I don't have enough money to get it removed at the vet.
I'm really upset because he is my favorite and most calm rat I've ever had. [so far lol] He's so amazing and fluffly lol.
If anyone knows anything about this stuff, I'd really like the advice. Just please don't give me links to any forums like that or anything. I hate searching and searching. I'm already part of a forum but people on there are stupid and I'd rather hear something from a DA person.

Update 11/11/2010: Hey guys thanks everyone so much for your concern and advice! I just got a job so I'll be able to fix this problem soon

Update: 11/23/2010: Hey everyone! He's fine now [from what I can see, but I'm still going to get him checked out, nonetheless] because I discovered him one day in his cage and there was blood and other goop everywhere.
Whatever it was, had burst. I had to clean out the tank
and give him a bath with baby wash lol. ...He didn't like it [cuz it prolly burned the wound] BUT I HAD TO CLEAN IT HELLOOOO
but it's all healed up now and all he's got is a teeny bump where it scarred.

UPDATE 11/29/2010: I'm so freaking retarded. All this time I thought Shadow was male. I decided to look down there today just to make sure, because he's almost 5weeks old. AND THEN I SAW 3 HOLES. *palmface* He is not a he, but a SHE. Oops. I've never made that mistake, ever! Lol. Well I'm glad now because I don't have to get rid of her But still....I'm a little shocked at my own stupidity....lol...

I would help, but I don't really know much about getting tumors removed. I get all of my information on rat health from the Goosemoose pet portal, but you said you didn't like forums... ((Really, these people are very nice though, they've been very patient with all my noob questions since I didn't know my rat knowledge was widely wrong.)) Anyways, I would suggest calling around to a few exotic vets, see how much they quote you, and if it's too much, explain your situation, they may be able to work out a payment method or something. Age is important for them to know too, it often affects whether they'll operate on a rat or not. I've not heard much about young rats getting rejected, but I assume if he's too young they wouldn't want to risk it.

My freind's rat had several tumers and abbseces, and she is still living, so i hope i can give a peice of advice. It may just be a absess, (i hope i spell that right) then when its larger, you could pop it. if it is a tumer then does need vet assistence. sorry to hear that hes having probs, but very cute pic

I love how the tip of his tail is a different color - so cute!

If I get the chance to see my brother soon, I'll try to remember to show him the picture of Shadow's belly. He's an exotics veterinarian so he always takes care of any issues I have with my rats. I can't really make any guarantees about that happening in a timely manner though, because he's really quite busy these days. But I'll try.
