Description Last evening myself and ~PaulGana went to photograph the "Fourmile Canyon Wildfire",which is burning behind and above the city of Boulder, and what awaited us was something the likes of which I have never seen. I always wanted to photograph a wildfire, but I have to say, I couldn't help but stop and be reminded of the people who are and have lost their homes, and whose lives are changed forever. Thank goodness for very long lenses is all I can say. I would in no way want to be close to this monster. Talk about bittersweet, this very shot now seems to be going viral on twitter [link] and is approaching 10,000 views in just a few hours. I only wish I never had to photograph it to begin with... This was shot with my Sony a550 and my Tamron 200-400mm lens. I am reminded of a quote with this shot--"Even when causing her most destruction, Mother Nature is still beautiful", very true, it is just very sad to see it....

I hope you all like it
John

Huh... I can see a strong contrast in this photo somehow. The city and the fires behind it....Great capture.

I recall the "old fire/gran prix fire" in southern california a few years back looked quite similar. beautiful yet destructive; it destroyed many of my favorite places of youth.

I read every word of your comments and I agree with you about the beauty of nature. This just goes to show one the dichotomy of nature - awesomely destructive and awesomely beautifyl

I remember that.

I work at the Super WalMart in Longmont and I remember one lady went through the lanes with like ... six carts of groceries and supplies. Spent something close to six thousand dollars. When asked by the cashier why so much, she said that only a hundred-fifty was for herself; the rest, she was donating to the refugees of this fire.

Longmont was smoky for a few days during it; caused some health problems too.

Either way, I'm glad it's over now and that is honestly a stunning photo of it.

It was startling to find this, and even more startling to find out it was from Boulder. I'm originally from Colorado, but I'm out of state for college right now, so I had no idea this was even happening...
Had I been home to hear about it, this would have been somewhat frightening.

Just remember this... When a wild fire burns, yes it is destructive and hurtful. But when it is over, what's left is fertile ground. Imagine all the new beginnings.
