Description Sunset At The Old Tree

One of my biggest influences in art, without question, is English romantic landscape master painter J.W. Turner I discovered him while studying at art college, and I fell in love with his work. When the traveling Great Masters of Art show landed in Denver at the museum, I almost slept out for tickets, knowing that among Rubens and Van Dyck, Turners work would be there. There is nothing like seeing Turners work in person, nothing. It is simply stunning and inspiring and very motivational.

So, I suppose without question that you could certainly say that whole shot was inspired by him. I wanted a shot that would really reflect the influence he has had on me as an artist and as a photographer specifically. My painting style goes without question, but trying to capture a photograph in teh same style as a master landscape painter is a different beast entirely.

Did I succeed? You be the judge.

About the photograph itself:

Captured on the northern Colorado plains on an old country road, the old tree, though long and dead, seems to almost still hold some life as the sky paints the end of the day slowly falling behind the Colorado Rockies.

Processed in Lightroom, Dynamic Photo HDR and final output through Photoshop.

I hope you all like it!

John

Turner was an incredible artist- i studied his work for my art GCSE. My favourite piece has to be the fighting Temeraire e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />
And as for this piece, it does look like a wonderful homage to his work. The colours and the atmosphere look very much in his style, and the colour and depth to the clouds especially make this very characteristic. The colours to the sky are beautifully intense, and nicely masked by the rather creepy looking tree towards the left of the shot.
I think there is a good contrast to the rest of the shot. The ground has some vastly different colour to the the sky and the clouds, and i think the colours of both compliment each other very well e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />
Great job, hun

Okay it's my first critique... I hope it won't be too bad or uninteresting but I feel kinda inspired by the photography. So we can say that it's a great impact (at least on me) because it really caught my attention.

This picture make me think to a life and death situation... You can see in the foreground the tree which looks dead because there's no leaves and the dark sky contrast a lot with the light on the background. It looks like the light is trying to win over the darkness. The composition is good.

The whole has a out of reality side, the colors are really dark, almost not colors apart from the sunset. So I really like the effect of light and colors.

We can see that you have a lot of knowledge in the use of tools. And it's well used!

"Sunset At The Old Tree" by ^kkart :

"It's simply perfect!", was the first thing I thought, when I've seen this great photograph in my Watchlist.
The old tree, the sunset, the mountains, the clouds and the sky.
There is nothing about that photography, what not fits!

I love the colours, their not to strong, the ground is is great and fits perfectly to the sky and the colourful sunset on tne right side of the image. I would give so many, to be there at this place and to write there a poem or a short story.

I can't discribe, how many impressions this image got!
It's simply great art work, perfect!
It's... GREAT!
