Description So...finally something new!

I am not that much into arch viz but this was personal project i did for only one reason, mostly - to learn Maya/Vray workflow. I took a bit of time but it was well worth the effort.
It's not a master piece, i know, but i think it is step forward when compared to previous work i did. Also, as you may notice, i am no longer doing stuff with Cinema4D. I thought a lot and finally came to the conclusion to switch on Autodesk since i actually want to get a job somewhere in CG industry one day and with C4D, as much as i love it, unfortunately it is hard to get it (except in motion/broadcast media or something, which i don't do).

Anyhow..Maya is from now on my main 3D app and i'm getting slowly familiar with 3ds max when i have time.

As said, modeling is done within Maya except those 3 bonsai models that i downloaded for free from Viz-people.com ([link] so..some nice free stuff can be found there.
Interior is based a bit on Japanese traditional houses, mostly "kotatsu" ...that low table behind sofa except that "kotatsu" also has futon(blanket) and usually heat source underneath it. I always wanted one in my house!!

Overall i am pretty much satisfied with outcome but obviously there is still a lot of room to improve. Am i still learning this whole CG thing and i guess some things comes only with more experience (and practice!).

Hope you guys like it.

EDIT: That short legged table is actually called "Chabudai"...i remembered, finally, huh! Kotatsu is winter version with futon and heating. There you have it!

UPDATE: I just got CGArena Excellence Award for this one! ->> [link] Which makes it my second one! Cool!

UPDATE_2: First Daily Deviation?!! Thank you mintyy for suggestion and PolyMune for featuring, thank you deviantArt, thank you all!! You are awesome!!

Absolutely brilliant modeling and render.  Beautiful design, and just incredibly detailed objects.  The materials and lighting compliment a perfectly constructed interior here, and I love the folds and wrinkles in the cloth.  Great scene.

I am unfamiliar with digital art in general, after reading your image info I'm to understand that this is done on a computer? Super impressive.

First of all, this is a master piece, so congratulations!
Do you know if there's any tutorial for V-Ray for Maya?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Klaudio2U In reply to rebooking [2013-07-16 13:40:03 +0000 UTC]

There is few on Digital-Tutors

--> www.digitaltutors.com/tutorial...
--> www.digitaltutors.com/tutorial...
--> www.digitaltutors.com/tutorial...

and some on Gnomon Workshop --> www.thegnomonworkshop.com/stor...

So definitely check those but also google it, try on youtube, spot3d.com(official vray). I was also watching a lot of vray tuts for 3ds max since there is a lot of them, much more then for Maya. The technique is what matters and there is no major difference from vray in Maya or 3ds so also check them out.

Nicely done!

In real life, mind you, I despise non-horizontal bookshelves because they damage the books' spines (and you can't balance most decorative items on the curves either), but as a graphic element the curved shelves are wonderful here.

If, for some reason, you still want crits, carpet creases tend to be wider at the carpet's edge and narrower toward the center, because many of them are caused by the edge being stretched by usage. But there are plenty of exceptions, so the shorter ones here aren't necessarily wrong; just rarer.

Thanks for your feedback.

I agree about the bookshelves 100% since i have a lot of book here in my room on nice straight shelves and this one is a just a bit..well... impractical.
The first idea was to make it all like a normal shelves but at the end i decided to make them a bit more different and unusual so...there you have it!

As for the carpet..i did not intended to make it as it looks now. The carpet is modeled of a lot of pieces stitched together and then i wanted to add certain texture but it didn't turned out as i wanted ---> here is the carpet without texture so you can see, it looks much better --> sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...
So at the end i added fur on it which covered all the little folds which made it look a bit more unnatural. As i said..i'm still a beginner so. it will be better next time

A great pic in any case--and _especially_ for a beginner. You make us want to be in that room.

WhiteRobot [2013-07-15 22:23:03 +0000 UTC]

Wow... the upper picture looks incredibly realistic! Very good job!

In the lower one the fabric texture irritates me. Or rather, not the texture itself, but the direction of the pattern! In the left and right pillow it's pretty much vertical/horizontal and in the middle one it's diagonal. So basically a rotation of more or less exactly 45°. Since the rest of the room gives off a tidy, but casual atmosphere, these neatly allinged textures don't quite fit.

I don't do digital art myself, so I don't really have experience with the technical side and how you chose the direction of the texture pattern. But I guess it should be possible to rotate it at an odd angle or something. Does this make sense?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Klaudio2U In reply to WhiteRobot [2013-07-16 13:16:01 +0000 UTC]

First of all..thank you for nice words and for critique

It is possible to rotate no doubt about it and to be honest even i don't like how it turn out at the end. The thing is also that the pattern would not benefit at all from direction change since the pillows are made of one material but kind of like two layers - color(blue/white pattern) and texture (that little bumps)..so that little bumps are custom made in photoshop and are basically white dots on black background and repeated seamlessly a lot  of time so direction does not matter.
But since i did not created 4 materials for each pillow i did one material and applied it on all so their different size and shape didn't make them look consistent.

At the end i didn't want to go trough few hours of render again so i left it as is, learned from a mistake so next time will be better.

It seems people have some prejudice about Maya, you are not the first one, so i'm not sure why is like that.

Other then that, thanks a lot!

Hahaha, yes, there is quite a lot.

Personally for me it's more envy, Maya is a fantastic program I was never able to master thus stuck to Blender because of it's simplicity x)

You're welcome ^^
