Description Introducing Yogi!

This is my new baby dog! He's 8 months old, and was found wondering around in a small rural town. He is a real gift. He's very sweet and very much an "old soul". He brings me great joy. He is a Chihuahua.

Hi Kim! Thanks so much. He's very sweet and smart!! The Vet guessed he was approx. 8 months old.

Oh, I just love him and love his name, too. I had to take my little Casey to the vet yesterday because he sniffed up two cheet grass seeds into his right nostril and was in great distress. There was no way we could get them out, so, we found a vet with a rhinoscope and she was able to remove the seeds. He spent the night there and I got him back this morning to the tune of $767.24!!! We were quite surprised at the bill, but glad they were able to help him. Silly dog! Good thing I love him a lot, huh? I hope Yogi doesn't get into mischief like that. Wish I could hold him.

Kim, give Casey a warm hug from me. I don't know what a cheet grass seed looks like. I'll google it. Poor sweet baby. I'm glad he is better. I know the Vet bills can be enormous. We need to get Yogi neutered and chipped, they quoted us, $450-$500. Holy cow! But, he is my baby.

We had Casey neutered and chipped, too, and it is worth the cost. Be sure to show us lots of pics of Yogi. Are your other dogs getting along okay with him?

My weenie dog doesn't like him, so we keep them separated. Our French Bulldog absolutely loves him, they run and play and are best friends.

I don't think the weenie dog will change. They are very stubborn!

My son has two Chihuahuas.
Can I give you a little advice?
When you hold him you must protect his front "shoulder" joints which are a fragile part. Chihuahuas get arthrosis in this joint if they are held badly.
The correct way it to put your first and second fingers up his chest towards his neck and the other fingers and thumb should hold in the joints. He will normally hold them in himself if you allow it.
In this photo his joints are forced outwards.

OK. Is that explained properly? Perhaps you know it.

I'm telling you because my son was told to be careful about this by his vet.
Another thing is not to let him jump down from high things like chairs. They love jumping.

Chihuahuas are so sweet but they bark easily when something alarms them. They are intelligent dogs and they learn things quickly.

Good luck with him. He will live around 15 years. That's a long time for a dog.

Sue, thank you so much for this very important information. I really appreciate the time you took to explain this to me. I will be very careful. The jumping part will be more difficult, he's so fast!
Thanks again for your great information!
Love,
Kathy

I'm glad you are glad. You get used to holding them quickly. Just keep his shoulders and elbows in!
Jumping down jars all the leg joints. Ours jump all the same. It's a good idea to put cushions on the floor where he jumps off. Or else you can make him something less high in front, I mean against the sofa or the bed for example, and he will use it.
Watch the way he walks too.
If you see one of his back legs that looks wobbly at the knee, ask the vet. My son's first dog had to have a metal pin put into the joint. It wasn't difficult. Expensive I think though.
Bye. Sue.
