Hi kludia ^_^
You are right, the continent is America and the country is the United States. But also in property "Latino" is who speaks Latin or lives in the region of Latio, in Italy, whose capital is Rome. If Spanish and Portuguese are Latin languages ββ(evolved from Latin), French is too ... Then the people of Quebec would also be Latin American. And the Angolans who speak Portuguese ... would they be Latino Africans? Would the Romans of the valleys speak Romansque (also a Latin language ), would they be Latin-European? And the few, but still existing, Jews who speak "Ladino" (a medieval form of Spanish) ... would they be Latin-Israelites?

lol we shouldnd't get bugged by it, it all has to do with the language you were born with. in english the continent is not one, but two, so they call what we call 'America' 'The Americas'. it's nothing more than that
gonna quote this vid to end all this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVMZC4β¦

(In fact, in French, it's okay saying "Γtats-Uniens" (Γtats-Unis = United States), even if it's less common than "AmΓ©ricain")

People. AMERICA is a continent. North America, Central America and South America areΒ subcontinents.
Quoting wikipedia:
"A continent is one of several very large landmasses on Earth. They are generally identified by convention rather than any strict criteria, with up to seven regions commonly regarded as continents. These are (from largest in size to smallest): Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.[1] In geology, areas of continental crust include regions covered with water.[...]"

People should say "The USA", not just "America". I'll admit to making this mistake sometimes XP
It's the same with Africa, it's a continent with over fifty countries and it bugs me when people refer to it like a country.

I don't think we will change.
I have never heard anyone else that I know not refer to themselves as American. It is just the way it is here.
Perhaps when you are talking to an American(from the U.S.) like me you could say you are north or south America, and American with others.
Also here in the U.S. even though you may not we think of North and South America as two different Continents so we wouldn't call it just America.

one continent. North,Center & South America are in the same continent
and if they're 2 they shouldn't have named America both continents

They're not basically continents... they're sub-continents.
North America, Central America, South America. They are sub-continents. America is the continent.

Not exactly. North America and South America are both continents, and Central America is just a geographic region in North America.

I can't understand why some people say that "America are 2 differents continents: South America and North America."
Wait... Whaaaat??? x'D In the world (The Earth) there are 5 CONTINENTS: Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Oceania
The only other continent that you can to add of the last 5 continents, Is the Antarctica.
Do they want evidences?
Okay, Do they remember the five rings in the olimpics games? Yes, Right? Well, These ring are representing a union of the FIVE CONTINENTS OF THE WORLD.
Blue= Oceania
Black= Africa
Red= America
Yellow= Asia
Green= Europe
Can't you believe me? Okay, Search it in Internet. I say the truth.
And, That's suspicious, the people that say "America isn't a continent, America are 2 continents." are from USA...
Ah, By the way, If America are "2 continents", North America isn't only the USA. No, North America are USA, Canada and Mexico. ._. Do you agree this? No? Yes? Don't try to kid me, please xD
Ah, By the way...I am not from the american continent, I'm from Europe. So, I'm more neutral xDD
And, of course, I love this stamp xDDDDDDDD

But, I think that if you(somebody) say America are two continents you forget Central America (Caribe) or it must be part of North America, so there are more than 20 countries (a lot of mini-countries xDD)
Thanks for the info about the rings
Because of this kind of peple/yankees I say USAmerican and American
English don't have the "Estadounidense" like in Spanish e.e

Yeah, I also guess that. For example Haiti, Where would be people from Haiti? They don't know. That's a mistery xD
My pleasure!
I usually call them as "people from USA". I don't like call them as americans.
I know, It's a shame...

Actually, the colors are just the 5 most common colors on flags. Even though, the 5 rings do represent the union of the 5 continents.

I read in some places that colours represented that continent...But I'm not sure of this. Although, the matter isn't the colours...The matter is that the 5 rings represent the 5 continents of the Earth. Because only are 5 continents (+ the Antarctica, If you want to take it in mind...)
--

Geologically speaking it's a continent because the undersea-conection that the islands and continent have. Like Oceania or Asia.
The name of Brazil is still United States of Brazil n.n
