Description
At the end of the final volume of Rurouni Kenshin, there is a bit of info about Kenji and what would go on in the new era. Though Kenji is depicted as a stupid child in the manga, his heritage (as Kenshin's and Kaoru's child) would shine through later. A true genius, he would "master Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu's techiques just by hearing about them."

So, time goes on... And in the 27th year of Meiji, Kenshin reclaims the sakabatou from Yahiko to fight Kenji for his son's genpuku (coming of age) ceremony. Though by then, as Kenshin told Kaoru, he is unable to use Hiten Mitsurugi's techniques due to the strain they put on his aging body, he has still been practicing with Kamiya Kasshin Ryu. (Because Kenshin could never give up swordsmanship completely.)

During the fight, Kenji surprises his father by leaping into the air and performing a flawless Ryu Tsui Sen - once one of Battousai's own signature techniques. Kenji lands the hit without hurting Kenshin, though he does hit with enough force to knock his father back some distance.

When Kenji goes to help his father stand, Kenshin rewards him with one of his brightest smiles as he sheathes his sword and places the sakabatou in Kenji's hands. He knows his son will do well with it, and as both a child of the new era and a practitioner of Kamiya Kasshin Ryu, Kenji will never make the mistakes Kenshin himself did.

Kenji is not a killer, and never will be one.

Alright, so I know Kenji supposedly would have to fight Yahiko's child for the right to have his inheritance, but I want it to happen like this. And so, for my entry in the contest, I present to you the epic battle we never got to see: Kenshin vs. Kenji! Like father, like son.

I also refuse to acknowledge that the Reflections OVA even exists. It isn't canon. It never happened. We do not speak of it.
