Description My ideal Superman movie would be thus:

1. Classic suit with spitcurl.

2. A brunette Lois Lane.

3. It would not be an origins movie, I'd show the origins in the beginning credit sequence. The movie starts 3 months after Superman's debut.

4. General Zod is more suitable as a sequel villain, plus he's been used twice which shouldn't have been done. I'd rather see a villain that has never been on the big screen before. My vote goes to Metallo.

5. Lex Luthor = Minor role. He's been the main villain in 4 Superman movies so he's been done to death. I know he's Superman's greatest nemesis, but Superman films can work without Lex being the main villain and relegated to a minor role. In my ideal Superman film, Metallo would be created by Lex Luthor in order to kill Superman after the Man of Steel refuses to "work for Luthor for money". My ideal sequels would have no Lex Luthor at all.

6. Lots of action between Superman and Metallo. And yes, Metallo would have a Kryptonite heart.

7. I'd stick to the original source material and do a traditional Superman movie.

8. Shared universe between Superman and the rest of the DC Universe Super-Heroes.

9. My ideal Superman movie would be directed by Richard Donnor but would have no connections to the Christopher Reeve films.

10. There would be NO religious references! Superman is NOT a representation of Jesus Christ. He has far more in common with Moses than he ever will with Jesus.

Β I really like some of your ideas. and I agree with number 10 completely. It was one of my main gripes with the plot of the Smallville TV show... how they pretty much had literal crucifixion on the TV show as part of some teenage hazing ritual, just so that they could hammer us over the head that Clark Kent was like the next Jesus. But, he didn't really come off as being Jesus-like and it just made the whole town look completely sociopathic and pyscho for acting like that kind of thing was perfectly okay.

Β I can forgive the movies a little bit since how they only have so much to say in one or two hours of movie time, but I can't forgive TV shows like that for making such blunders.

Β And on Lex Luthor, I hate how the movies make him such a one-dimensional character when he was far more complex in all of the TV versions and the comic version. He wasn't purely evil, but he wasn't purely good, neither. He was just in the grey area most of the time, unless he felt that Superman had to pay for some transgression against him. I actually like what they're doing with him in the latest works, where he's actually working with the Justice League for now.

Thanks for adding my work to your faves.

I appreciate your thoughts as well. It was my gripe with Smallville as well. I absolutely hated it.

For me, Lex was used too much. One dimensional or three dimensional. I got so sick of him always being the main villain in nearly every Superman film. Superman has a much bigger rogues gallery than just Lex Luthor. Let's see someone different.

Β  Smallville had some really good moments too though, which is one of the reasons why I kept on watching. The other reason was that it was the only Superman TV show on, so of course I watched it. But I do admit that the TV show had a lot of shitty writers for it at times and sometimes invented things that made no sense for the Superman mythology. I loved the Superman and Supergirl designs they had for the Season 11 comic book series though.

Β And, yes I do agree that they overuse Lex Luthor TOO MUCH. Sometimes too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

I wonder why they tend to overuse certain superman characters just simply because they're more famous than other superman characters? I mean, everyone knows who Lex Luthor is so they overuse him. Much like how everyone knew that Lana Lang was Clark Kent's sweetheart in Smallville, so therefore on the TV show Smallville they overused Lana Lang and shoved her into every single scene when she didn't need to be there. I actually ended up hating Lana Lang A LOT because of it... it was like she became Wesley Crusher of star trek fame on the Smallville show. They even had her stick around after Clark Kent was going to college in metropolis and therefore the tv show did not need Lana Lang anymore. YET she was still sticking her head into scenes that she did not need to be in!

people in the movie and TV business needs to learn that just because a certain character is more recognized or popular in the fandom, that it doesn't mean that they have to constantly use them over and over. using a lesser known superman villain might even give them more artistic license to re-imagine those villains.
