Description Okay, I know I've been out of practice too long when...

Anyway, lots of fun in this image. Intended to be a parody and for fun. It's also to go into [link] KP movie pics contest.

Enjoy.

Yes it does, the but the machine gun leg didn't look any less bizarre in my head.

I hadn't thought about writing one. I writing other stuff now, but if you want to, run some ideas by me and I'll tell you what I was thinking.

There is a lot I like about this. The 'Toon House", the 'no disc special addition' the work that went into it. And Rose McGowan with red hair is a totally acceptible Kim Possible, so the switch works. Plus it was an awesome movie that you worked into classic characters.

Thank you. I wish my inkings had turned out as well as the pencils. It just goes to show how much work I'm going to have to put into my portfolio...

I really debated a lot with who to put in. I'm glad you enjoy.

I love the movie too. Working on this has made me want to see it again.

Planet Terror was miles better than Death Proof.

I think so too. I hated seeing the bad guy in Death Proof become such a wimp in the end.

Exactly! Tarantino failed to realize that the vast majority of his audience is 18-35 year-old males. To that demographic, Kurt Russell in a black muscle car with a skull on the hood is a hero. Instead of playing that angle, he decided to make some kind of herky-jerky, totally illogical women's liberation protest. I'm beginning to think that Quentin is in fact a woman.

I don't think Tarantino pays any attention to his demographic. I think he does what he wants. I just wish I could understand more the decisions in that movie. I don't mind the women being bad ass in that movie, but for Kurt's character to be so pathetic, was just plain wrong. There was no support for him being that way in the rest of the film. I mean if had wimpy at any other stage I could've bought it, but for him to just end that way. The only thing I can figure is he just wanted to make certain the character was seen as nothing more than a bully, which ended up giving the character no depth.

Anyway, at least the chase sequence was awesome! I mean the way they threw up dirt, the way they jumped and the way they beat the hell out of the cars. That was completely kick ass!

Exactly! He was a murdering psycho for most of the movie, but as soon as he hears gunfire, he turns into a sniveling wimp?! Wassupwitdat?!

I'm all for car chases, but the whole Girl-On-Hood thing ruined it for me. It was just so random and stoopid. It's like he knew he needed a gimmick to try and compete with other all-time great chases, so he just went with the most random thing he could think of. If you're looking for a perfect chase, there are only two movies you need to concern yourself with. The Blues Brothers, for comedic destruction, and Bullitt, for highly-tuned muscle car purity. In Bullitt, the cars were tuned by top Trans-Am race teams, and driven by McQueen and Bud Ekins, both pro-level drivers. Back in his day, Steve McQueen was actually ranked nationally in the top ten amateur motorcycle racers. The studios would never let him race, so he had to enter every race in secret under the name Harvey Mushman. The Elsinore Grand Prix is actually named the Harvey Mushman Classic now.

I would also list Grand Prix as a perfect car chase movie, but since those are sanctioned races, they don't really qualify in the traditional "chase" category. Still, for awesome car action, you need to watch it. James Garner is another actor who turned out to be a pro behind the wheel, as well.

I've seen the person on the hood of the car before. It's a common practice for a lot of movies. However it seems that it's more oriented toward comedies than the serious car chases. One of my personal fave car chases is in "Lethal Weapon 2." I love how Donner paid homage to and made fun of car chases at the same time.

I have Bullitt, but haven't finished it. I'm familiar with McQueen passion for racing. He was one of the few actors that was mostly smart with how he dealt with his need for speed. (Didn't know about the name change though. Thanks for the info on that.) But I have heard that he did have a couple of tickets because of his lead foot.

I knew Garner was a car nut from Rockford files. Why else would he keep that car in such great shape, didn't know though that he as skilled behind the wheel though. That's good to know.

When they were filming Grand Prix, the actors did all their own driving, because the open nature of the cars made it necessary. Brian Bedord was totally hopeless, so his scenes were done by Graham Hill wearing a fireproof balaclava to hide his face. Antonio Sabato was tolerable, Yves Montand was pretty handy, and all the GP stars reckon that Garner could have made it into Grand Prix for real if he took up driving as his profession.

The best thing about that movie is the part in the credits where they list the drivers. In most movies, all the pro driving is done by a handful of stuntmen. In Grand Prix, the list included the entire Formula One grid from the 1966 season. Phil Hill, Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, Lorenzo Bandini, Bob Bondurant, Richie Ginther, Bruce McLaren, the list goes on. They even had a cameo from the five-time champ from the '50s, Juan Manuel Fangio.

A Consumer Reports best buy? A car that has the best overall quality.

Well, those cars get the rewards for a reason. That said, I don't really look at awards as the end-all, be-all. You need to take it on a car-by-car basis, thinking about the brand's reputation for performance, reliability, comfort, options, etc. You need to keep the competition in mind, and how a car measures up. One car might lose an award just because it's more expensive than the competition, despite having excellent features and a smooth ride. In my experience, you can never go wrong with the Germans. Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, especially. Did you have a specific car in mind that you were thinking about?

I was thinking something under a grand and something I could do most of the repairs on myself.

turbolover175 In reply to knighted-feline [2010-05-13 10:21:10 +0000 UTC]

Under a grand? In that price range, you have to go with what the market gives you. Older American cars will likely give you more trouble than a Japanese car, but they're the easiest to work on. A thousand will buy you a reliable Honda with a lot of miles, but those were already well-integrated with various electronics that are crude enough to break, but complex enough to make repairs a pain. My best bet, off of personal experience, would be to find an '80s Volkswagen Jetta. They're simple and stout, easy as anything to work on, and the engine can last over a million miles with nothing more than oil and fluid changes.
