The best way to start off the year: FANPARENTS!!!

Remember how in black knight Silver was Galahad and Shadow was lancelot and everyone made theories about that and completely ignored how Percival and Lamorak were brother and sister?
Remember how I ignored the Silver is Shadow's son theory and made REMIX, better known as "the best thing ever" ???
Well now it's time to do the opposite of convention in the other direction!!

So here we go. This is a little wild so bear with me.
You know how Blaze's world has Sky Babylon, which is like the Babylon Garden? And how Blaze is unlocked after the Babylon story in the riders games? And how Jet and Blaze share common motifs of fire? (Jet and the other Babylon Rogues have flame tattoos on their arms; Blaze is a pyrokinetic princess etc.) And they both have elemental powers?? (wind and fire) And how one of Jet's concept designs puts him as a cat???

Well, here is the theory: the Babylonians came from the Sol dimension a loooong time ago. In the Sol dimension, at least some people have magic powers, and vehicles are alchemized together from raw Materials - even a kid like Marine can craft a boat from a pile of materials, especially if Tails is doing all the work for her lol. Furthermore the majority of the wildlife is hostile and robotic. The Sol dimension does not seem terribly advanced, despite this miraculous techno-magic. So we might assume that at some point in the past they were set back quite a ways. We might go so far as to suppose it had something to do with AI becoming self aware and perhaps going a little crazy nuts, because that's what happened with the robots in Zero Gravity when they were exposed to the Babylonian Arks of the Cosmos, and Blaze's world is currently overrun with conscious AI robots that want to take your money and/or kill you and/or race you on jetskis.
The Astral Babylon was, let us hypothesize, a dimension-crossing ship, rather than just an alien ship from deepspace, and the Babylonians were the bird-people who once lived in Blaze's world in ancient times - the Sky Babylon is an old ruin of theirs, as well as Pirates Island, although that got taken over by... yanno... pirates. But we'll get back to that in a sec.
They ended up in Sonic's world aboard Astral Babylon but their engine nearly exploded into a black hole from the strain so they had to jump ship and dump the arks of the cosmos and were forced to basically stay stuck on this new planet, but after a bit they were chill, and used their skills of crafting and magic to "grant wishes," becoming seen as genies. We could assume they crash-landed in Shamar, where the arabian nights stuff happens, and that they taught certain humans and other mobians their abilities, allowing them to become "genies" as well, and perhaps then spread across the world, their influence reflected in the many bird-man statues seen everywhere from Gigan Rocks to Dusty Desert. The sacred hidden knowledge of the Babylon Garden was passed on down Stolen's line, ending up in the modern-day hands of the Babylon Rogues, who are the keepers of Babylon's secrets although at some point they kind of forgot what they were and are now trying to rediscover what was lost. They are treasure hunters that go around looking for Babylonian artifacts... and like, profit lol.

The previous iteration of the Rogues consisted of Jet's father, Wave's father, and.... probably one of Storm's relatives lol. Jet's dad was the leader, Wave's dad was the technician, and Storm's... relative was Storm's role, which I will call the priest to be cool. Storm's not very good at riding EX-gear and needs gears that are twice as big as anyone else's apparently, but he does seem more in-tune with the whole "teachings of our ancestors" part, serving as a parallel to Knuckles the way the other two parallel the other two etc.

The babylon key is really the key to get home, and allows you to activate Babylon Garden and would, in combo with the Arks, create not a black hole but a portal back to the sol dimension large enough for the whole of Astral Babylon to sail through... but under the wrong circumstances could mis-fire.

And one day Vortex was messing around with the babylon key trying to figure out what it did, and somehow created a tiny portal to Sol and got stuck. While he's stuck there, he's communicating with Wave's dad through some method, maybe he took a walky talky with him lol whatever, but he's basically stranded in a post-robocalyptic world armed with only an EX-gear and I guess a walky talky. Anyway so on one side Wave's dad is working hard with probably Storm's relative to re-open the portal and get Vortex out, but the ancient technomagic is a little too obtuse and weird, and meanwhile Vortex is exploring this new dimension and relaying them information and trying to help on his end. He can't help but search for treasure and catches wind of Babylonian artifacts. But that's how he gets captured and enslaved by Pirates...

Skip ahead a few months and he's the pirate king. With his roguish charms he basically has worked his way up the ladder, earned respect of the pirate captains, and finally united all the squabbling pirate gangs under his leadership, and is now sitting pretty on the most lucrative pirate empire Sol has ever seen. He's basically using his gig as pirate master to search for the secrets of Babylon and is the one responsible for Pirates Island, which once was a Babylonian city, and now is basically like his castle. Nobody can get in but him because it's opened via babylonian magic - you either need to find all the keys, or know the secret password, and he knows the password because it's obviously "open sesame." He blesses his pirate crews with the password, they can retreat to this impenetrable fortress and party in their piles of treasure and craft more better ships using their hoardes of Materials, including the rare Black material which makes badass cannons. Grand Captain Vortex and all the other pirates are total bros when they aren't robbing and pillaging heartlessly. He gets a dumb painting commissioned of himself in a cool pose with his pirate hat and sword and takes it everywhere with him. He's Vortex the Pirate and everyone keeps thinking he's a Parrot, etc etc, it's hilarious and the best thing ever, and so on...

But then... the Queen of the Sol dimension has to go deal with these pirate scum, but oh no... he's hot...

So, over the course of it, you have the queen and the pirate having a sordid love affair. They have twins, a lavender cat girl and a green hawk boy. But then... well, it gets out that there's a sordid love affair, between the queen and PIRATE FILTH, but it's probably more like THAT PIRATE FILTH IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OUR POOR QUEEN, LET'S ROAST THAT CHICKEN, so Vortex has to leave, taking the "obviously the child of the green hawk pirate guy" kid with him for their own safety.

Fortunately, Wave's dad by this point has had Wave. 4-year-old Wave comes toddling in to Wave's dad's workshop because she's been waiting for her bedtime story (Advanced Thermodynamics, vol. 4) and her dad is taking weirdly long so she's seeing what's up. This is what is up: Wave's dad is freaking out and hearing Jet's dad freaking out because Blaze's Mom's Kingdom is freaking out and coming to kill Jet's dad and Jet's dad's son and etc and HAVE YOU FIGURED OUT THE PORTAL YET and wave's dad is like N-NO I THOUGHT YOU WERE COOL and Jet's dad is like I'M KICKING YOUR ASS and 4-year old Wave with her genius-level intellect wanders over and looks at the plans and starts helping her dad and then there's like this amusing moment when he realizes she is helping him and he's like HEY!! YOU ROCK and gets all excited and Wave was 200% confidence ever since.

Anyway they manage to figure out how to open the portal just in time and Vortex says goodbye and takes babby Jet snuggled safely in his arms, and it is very sad and bittersweet, and they can't be together like they want to be and ET CETERA. He's about to fly up to the portal, which is high up in the air, on his EX-gear but... babby Blaze does NOT want daddy to go and so she runs after and gets on the gear before anyone can react and it's like oh shit. It happens in like 5 seconds - the gear takes off, Blaze falls off, Vortex and Jet hit the portal and smash into Wave's dad and Wave's dad's daughter's living room. (And then Jet's dad kicks Wave's dad's ass as promised, etc, but they're like DUUUUDE ;____; and hugging five minutes later and so on)

Back in Sol Dimension, Blaze is falling to her DEATH-- but then her powers are awakened. Her soul resonates with the Sol Emeralds and activates them, granting her a surge of power, and she blasts her flames everywhere in fear, which slows her down enough... When the smoke clears the emeralds are swirling around her and she floats gently to the ground, surrounded by flames. The noble flames confirm her royalty and the emerald's dance shows she is destined to become the guardian of the Sol Emeralds, so nobody can touch her now even though she's a filthy HALF-PIRATE.

And so, Jet always is at his most comfortable soaring high above the ground on an EX-gear, because that's where you're safe and free and nobody can catch you...
...And Blaze is terrified of heights, because the trauma of falling was so firmly branded on her babby psyche. And she is wary of her flames partly because the fear of falling and the first use of her flames were so tightly linked.

Lilin is the empress of Blaze's world. She hails from the violet kingdom and wears her country's colors. She lost her eye kicking ass or something. Her royal flames are blue-green and she keeps several around her at all times as both decoration and protection. Her shoes and face paint and necklace are all based on the proto-blaze design, as well as her veil crown and the flame pattern on her robe. The trim is based on a combination of blaze's tailcoat and blaze's winter games tailcoat. The name "Lilin," A FANTASTIC NAME PROVIDED TO ME BY MY FRIEND THE INCREDIBLE KINETICMINT , means "candle" in several languages but is also the name of a demonic night spirit, in the same vein as "mephiles" and "iblis" perhaps... and also it sounds cool like an empress name in my opinion lol. Plus it kinda looks like the word Lilac and stands out from the typical "ember" or "cinder" type of names for her mom while still retaining the connection to fire lol
She has sky blue eyes. She's calm, reserved, and not easily flustered, with a strong sense of honor and fairness. In combat she uses her flames in conjunction with folding fans. She's not big on EX-gear because they remind her too much of painful things.

Blaze is Blaze, she is the imperial princess of the Sol dimension and the guardian of the Sol Emeralds. She is very afraid of heights. She tries to be cool and composed, but she's got a hot temper and makes poor decisions out of stubbornness. She seems to have a big chip on her shoulder about her flames and is always trying to prove herself and hates asking for help. She wants to do everything on her own. She's quite prideful, even a bit arrogant at times, and although she insists otherwise, she likes to show off. She's blunt and straightforward and has no mercy for law-breakers, but she's also shy, self-conscious, and easily flustered... basically she is a tsundere.
In combat, she basically just sets herself on fire and jumps at people while running really fast. Most of her moves involve spinning around. Her EX-gear is the Flame Lance, crafted of Materials unknown to Sonic's world.

Jet is Jet, he is the legendary wind rider and current leader of the Babylon Rogues. He loves heights, thrills, and cash money, and he's not so big on laws or whatever, but he's got a very strongly honorable nature. When it's time to lead, he calmly starts handing out orders, and loves nothing more than a good challenge. However, he has no patience for Storm and Wave's squabbling, and when he's bored he's not above goofing off and daydreaming. He has a bit of a temper; he's known to kick his desk across the room if he's irritated. He lives in the Babylon Rogues' airship with Storm, his right-hand bird, and Wave, his left-hand bird. Incidentally, Jet himself seems to be left-handed, so this might put Storm in the #3 position.
His weapon is his pair of Bashōsen, with which he can smack people and also create tornadoes etc. His EX-gear board is the Type-J, made for him by Wave.

Vortex, also known as "Tex" for short, is the currently-retired leader of the Babylon Rogues. You saw a painting of him in some kind of pirate outfit in Jet's office, if you were paying attention. He looks basically identical to Jet. I've put him in a casual outfit, he has the boots from one of Jet's prototype designs and a jacket vaguely based on Scourge's. The back of his jacket has the Babylon Rogues's symbol on it in red. I've also given him hair like the prototype Jet, but with a thicker dark pattern, which could be natural or an extremely lazy attempt to hide from the cops. A "vortex" is a swirl of air or water, just like how a jet is a stream of air or water.
He has orange-yellow eyes. He's laidback and likes cash money. But it's easy to embarrass him if you push his buttons. He's a bit of a rash hothead.
He uses a sword in combat, specializing in spinning strike kind of moves. His EX-gear board is the Type-5789.
