i really really like the smoky/cloudy effect in the background it's cool!

Tale the gradient tool in Photoshop, make sure it's set to black and white, then make a gradient over the whole background layer. Then go to Filter>Render>Difference Clouds and it'll make it all smoky. Then press Ctrl+L to open the levels box, and play with the middle slider till you get a thing thunder-bolt looking thing. Press ok, then press Ctrl+I to invert the colors, it'll look like a lightning bolt and the clouds will be around there. You can make several layers like this, then just erase the parts where you want the other bolts to show through and blend them to make it all look natural. If you want to add color to your bolt/clouds, like I did, press Ctrl+U to open the hue/sat layer and press "colorize" in the corner, then mess with the sliders till you make it look pretty.

lol, don't worry about it. If you run late on the contest, I can always extend the date, and there is no rush on the other stuff. ^^
