Combat Analysis:

✦✦✧✧✧ | STR (strength, durability)

✦✦✧✧✧ | SPD (speed, agility)

✦✦✦✦✧ | INT (smarts, strategics)

✦✦✦✦✧ | UTL (utility, usefulness, skill, accuracy)

Weapon: Swiss Army Knife

He made the Swiss army knife as a teen when he was trying to recreate the one his father owned. It has a long and small blade, a screwdriver, a magnifying glass, a ruler, a multi-purpose hook, and a wrench. The blade may be used for combat but he doesn’t like fighting, and he relies more on his improvisation and quick-escapes as he isn’t very durable. The pink fabric on the keyring is given to him by his mother.

Personality:

Mario is very unbothered externally, he doesn't care what people think of him- that's why his appearance is unkempt, however, beneath that cold exterior, Mario is a very polite man, always striving to display his best manners even though small-talk or even saying “thank you” to the bartender makes him uncomfortable.

Mario’s mind is always engaged with his various “inventions”. He likes to get things to completion for testing as soon as he can. His enthusiasm for his projects precedes his withdrawal from people and his averseness to socializing, as nothing will get him talking more than if you ask him what he’s working on. He has so many ideas in his head and is glad for that, as he keeps himself busy to get distracted from the thoughts that plague him at night. His past looms on him like a shadow, and he feels shame and deep self-doubt as the sole survivor of the plague that hit his family. He's gotten better at dealing with the misery, and tries his best to live life now and move on, but it gets very hard once he gets stuck in a cycle of self-doubt, and only working on an invention distracts him out of it.

Mario is also highly independent, and keeps to himself. He’s also strangely optimistic (for the future). He tries his best to close his emotions off, as he still fears closeness, but if you’re close to him he’ll show his feelings, because deep-down he misses the feeling of a family more than anything.

Mario can assess situations very well and can read the mood of the room solely from observing people’s behavior. However, while he may be observant and skilled at reading people, he himself just does not know how to talk like how most people do. He babbles on for too long, or not long enough. His jokes don’t really land, as his line delivery is extremely dry. People tend to feel uneasy in Mario’s presence, as his awkwardness and his obligation to be polite don’t match. He tries his best, though.

He’s quick to adapt to the situation at hand, and is a very good critical thinker, relying mainly on improvisation and spontaneity rather than planning. His spontaneity also leads to the fact that he’s an extremely messy person. Despite the vast amount of information found in Mario’s brain, his short-term memory is not that great. He has a bit of knowledge on everything he’s come across, but don’t ask him what he’s had for breakfast.

tl;dr Dad Jokes™ but without the jokes

Misc:

-He tends to feed strays but would never get a pet for himself.

-He got his funky socks from his mother.

-His watch is actually broken he just keeps forgetting to get rid of it.

-Alcohol clouds his mind and makes him feel weird and gross, good for forgetting the past but bad when you're fixing things.

-Can eat a mushroom raw. Uses it as an intimidation tactic.

-Mario’s taste buds are non-existent. He cannot taste anything and it doesn’t really bother him.

-Mario actually cannot see very well, but he doesn’t think he needs glasses and instead relies on the magnifying glass in his Swiss Army Knife.

-Mario and his sisters used to help their father with solving cases, often coming up with creative solutions that strangely work.

-Bruises extremely easily.

-He has really bad aim.

Background:

Mario was born in America, to an American mother and an Italian father. He is the youngest of two sisters, and his family were very close to each other. Their income was low, good-enough to live by, but he never had a life of luxury either. However, the Amantea family’s lives seemed to be going great despite the circumstances.

As a child, Mario was highly gifted at tinkering, and used to rework many of the Amantea family’s various machinery around the house such as his mother’s sewing machine among other things. He was an avid reader of books and came across a book dubbed ‘Mechanics for Young America’, which fueled his curiosity and kick-started his interest for making inventions. However, it was not a very good career move at that time, and although he had many things to work on he was unable to sell his inventions and was unable to earn enough money to support his family.

Mario’s father retired when Mario was 18, and he took up work in the police force, following his father’s footsteps, throwing away his future hopes to being an inventor. Fortunately, Mario turned out to have a knack for police work, as his quick-thinking helped him do well in solving cases, and his vast knowledge gained from reading books helped him gain a favorable position in the force. Despite forgoing his dreams of being an inventor, Mario secretly wished he would build something incredible, as amazing as the new fully functioning automobile he’d seen on the newspaper.

A few years later, when Mario turned 21, his father died. The family took his death hard but managed to live on. The recovery time was cut short, however, as the abrupt contraction of the Spanish Flu by Mario’s mother, and subsequent infection of the remaining Amantea family in 1918 caused a very stressful time in their lives. It was brutal and sadly took the lives of Mario’s mother and sisters, Ana and Mariana. Before his mother died, however, she told Mario words that would change his life: "Don't let this get you down, Mario, live the life that was taken from us, and we'll be with you always." Mario took her words to heart, as he always listened to what Mama said, and he moved out, as he couldn't bear to stay in his hometown any longer, and ended up in a city called Lavistage.

Lost and walking near the docks, with no money left as he wasted it all on alcohol (he said he'd live his life, but not responsibly, especially not with what happened), he suddenly decided to put his previously gained knowledge of tinkering to use. He took up work as a boat mechanic. He wasn't very good at first, as he only had his self-learned mechanical skills, but started to gain expertise in a short amount of time. One day, during work, he noticed people making an "exchange". Remembering the recent rumors about people smuggling alcohol through the docks after the prohibition, and knowing how much money he'll gain to buy even more alcohol in a futile attempt to satiate his misery, he picked up a boat he was fixing (rather, improving), and wriggled his way into the network of smugglers, offering to improve their smuggling boats and give them better, more hidden storage space (one of his inventions) in return for a percentage of the profit gained from the operation. He would improve smuggler’s boats, make them faster, install secret storage units, and generally work as a mechanic to deal with their every need, including fixing up weapons, building weapons, and occassionally working on cars.

He built a reputation as 'the handyman' the guy you wanna go to to pimp fix your ride, fix your weapons, and the works, for a just price and no questions asked. His reliance on alcohol got worse, and drinking on the job led him to install a faulty engine in one of the boats he fixed, and the boat blew up. The driver of the boat died, and it came to light that the boat was owned by the recently-emerged Vendella Familia. He really thought he'd meet his end when a member approached him in his apartment, however the man offered him a job. The familia gets to use his expertise exclusively, in return he'd not get killed for what he cost the family...and maybe get paid. He agreed (as if he had a choice), and promptly started acting as the Vendella's handyman. He's been working for years in the Vendella now, having served the founder for a short while, and he's grown attached to the familia in an odd way, distracting him from his past that he's dwelled so long on.

Relationships:

    Ophelia Deveraux
The only other 30+ member in the familia. No one knows how they became best friends for sure, but this friendship is one for the books. She keeps trying to shave his unfortunate mustache.

     Esther Farwell
They've only talked twice, and both times Esther wanted to arrest him. Do you blame her?
