Hey there, just noticed this submission in one of the PokΓ©mon related groups and felt like leaving a comment.
First of all, I really like the colours you used. They blend in nicely with the shiny shinx (shiny shinx... now these words look weird together...) and give this piece a very warm feeling. I, too, have to spoil your doubts about the background. The mountains and the rock shinx is standing on seem to be a bit rushed, that's true, but you did a good job with the clouds and their overall shading. The starly are a cute idea, too, since they don't draw too much attention but fill up empty space.
Nevertheless, I think you should do some anatomy studys on canine/feline anatomy (whatever you take shinx for). The tail seems to be a bit broad while the neck is very, very thin. The anatomy of the legs is okay, especially the back hindleg, but the forelegs look a bit stiff to me.
So go on with your experiments and keep your good eye for colours! : )

Ah, thank you for such an in-depth critique, though I regret to inform you that this work is over 2 years old, so I have improved a far deal since then and my subject matter has moved away from pokemon as of late as well. (Just recently a bit of a chain of groups asked to include the piece in their galleries, which would explain why it's still hopping around 2 years later.) Still, my feline anatomy hasn't improved as much as some of my other technical skills, so thank you, it's still very helpful to know what needs improving even now. Happy holidays!
