Description This is the whole batch of walnut tops I've done so far, sans the ones I've given to friends.  Varying degrees of complexity and detail, mostly as I started getting used to how the walnut turned and finished under the carbides.  All are un-stained, just with a clear friction polish and wire-burned details.  About halfway through the batch I made myself a second wire burner, using a finer gauge (28-gauge) wire, to let me use a couple different size details.  Overall I'm quite happy with the effect, although it appears that I have to replace the steel wire about every half-dozen tops, it wears and snaps much more quickly than the old 19-gauge one.  Totally worth it, though, given that it takes perhaps 90 seconds to replace the wire, with a total cost of about four cents.

I'm having a lot of fun with this lathe, I really should have gotten into it earlier!
