Oh, Super Mario Odyssey. How I love you so. With your creative levels, amazing music, and the return of the original damsel in distress herself. (A.K.A The best Nintendo waifu next to Rosalina and a few others non-Mario related.)And who could ever forget Cappy; Mario's companion throughout the entire adventure. Who was basically a F.L.U.D.D 2.0, only much more helpful and ninety five percent less annoying. But here's a question for you: Will we ever see him again after Odyssey?
Granted, in some of the current and upcoming games like Mario Party: The Top 100 and Mario Tennis Aces, the hat ghost himself is nowhere to be seen on the plumber's head. And doesn't that strike you as...odd? I mean, what, did Mario just bid farewell to Cappy in the Cap Kingdom and just went to buy a new hat from a Toad Shop or something? In my honest opinion, that would be pretty dumb. We just saw Bowser destroy the original, so shouldn't Cappy be permanent? If you ask me, he was one of the best companions I've ever seen Mario team up with. Sure he's no Paper Mario character, but he didn't have to be. He was simple, but full of charm. Something the series is know for and why it's so popular. Point is, I really hope Nintendo brings him back in a Mario game. And not as a cameo, either. Because lord knows we've had way too many of those in these games. Thinking about it, I'm staring to wonder if Nity likes to erase simple charming characters. Like, the Potlerpup from Dark Moon, which technically was Luigi's pet. Well, I thought so anyway. And hell, what did Luigi do with the Potlerpup? Did he let it go or something?
...Now, you may think I'm an idiot and reading too far into this. Yeah, I get it, Mario games aren't big in the story department outside the RPGs and I shouldn't question logic. But when Nintendo scraps these small things, you can't help but wonder if the Mario Bros. themselves forget their adventures or not, y'know? I mean, they sure as hell didn't forget the time the Shroobs invaded when they found some in Inside Story.
Though, who knows? Maybe we WILL see Cappy after the time this has been posted. Maybe in the new upcoming Smash, for one. After all, we DID briefly see Link in his Breath Of The Wild attire instead of his Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time ones in the previous entries. So surely Mario could wear him then? Just think of the moveset he would have...

Mario got a new hat after their adventure. In the final photograph you get after getting all the moons and defeating Bowser, there's Cappy as a ghost beside him AND Mario's got his standard hat on.
I don't see Cappy having the same role in future Mario platformers. FLUDD and Luma certainly didn't. But what I would like is for him to be a reoccurring character in spinoffs, like how Bowser Jr and Rosalina started appearing really frequently after their debuts. Though something that would be a missed opportunity is if he wasn't incorporated into Mario's moveset for the latest Smash Bros.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind him appearing in spinoffs and such. Actual characters rather than standard Mario enemies and overused ones. Oh lord, just think of the moveset! I can only imagine the rest of the Smashers having a red cap, mustache, and blue eyes.

Oh phew, I thought I was the only one. I mean I do 100% some games, but most of the time I can't be bothered. Odyssey's my favourite Mario game though, even if there were parts that were a huge pain in the arse.

I don't mainly because I don't have the time or patience to do so. And given how I'm a bit short tempered, Lord knows I don't want to go through a ton of frustration for completion.
In terms of Mario characters, I'd say King Boo and K. Rool.

Damn right, I'm in the same boat. I just haven't got the patience. Games are meant to be enjoyed anyway. If people enjoy 100%ing a game, that's great but if others just enjoy completing it, that's great too.
King K Rool in particular seems to be a popular choice. King Boo would be an interesting representative for Luigi's Mansion. That is something that I think's needed in Smash, characters specifically from Mario spinoffs. Diddy's the closest to being that but I still count him as a Mario character since he's been in so many Mario games.

Yep, it's a win-win situation. And sometimes, 100% may just either be for bragging rights, or not work it in the end.
I honestly was saddened by how both of them weren't in Smash 4. Especially K. Rool since he's a very iconic boss in the Donkey Kong Country games up to this date. And King Boo due to how his moveset would work.

King K Rool was a Mii costume so at least he's been acknowledged. But yeah, he should have a bit more than that as well. Have you ever posted your ideas for King Boo's moveset?

I do hope he returns! : o But sadly, like most "gimmicks" or new characters in big Mario games..the short answer is "most likely not". I don't know why Ninty never beings them back. It could be or good character development, seeing them in new settings and story lines. Like, I'd LOVE to see Rosalina and Daisy in new settings, or stories that don't have to do with space/Sarasaland. Dare I say Waluigi for the 9000th time???

Yeah, it's honestly kinda annoying they just straight up forget characters they made and make new uninspired ones sometimes and leave the creative ones in the dust.
