You know the irony is that the Extended Cut basically makes this particular page canon.
Well, the part about the Catalyst being Harbinger anyway. If only Marauder Shields had really appeared to take care of him.

Too bad shooting him triggers the worst (and yet most fitting) ending sequence.
Better to die free then live a slave.

This is so cathartic. To me the interaction with starchild was the worst thing about the ending
From my point, what really bother me was the fact that Shepard was down right compliant to the starchild. How this opinionated outspoken, stronged will commander who just so happens to debate with virtually every character friend or foe throughout the series become so weak willed, compliant and simply fooled by the villain who was responsible for all of the problems throughout the series. They went through all the trouble about the deaths of her crewmates scarring Shepard, well that catalyst was responsible for Ashley, Mordin and Thane's death and you going to sit here and trust the freaking starchild.
It's not really lack of choice, I mean ME1 ending had save the council or let the council die, ME 2 had give the collector base to TIM or destroy it. The difference in the ending was colour coded as well. Nevertheless I felt it grew organically from the plot, the choices fit with the main theme of the game (humanity first , or humanity with aliens as equals) and I didn't feel like I was forced into doing something that i wouldn't choose to do.
I feel like either committing genocide (destroy), producing galaxy homogenisation ( I'm find the synthesis ending to be down right offensive and racist. Let's shake hands with hitler and produce the master genetically pure race) or bloody trust the starchild that I can control the reapers even though TIM wasn't allowed to control it for reason unexplained. Seriously the control ending just looks like a bloody trap, if the reapers were happy for Shepard to control it and then to do whatever Shepard wants with it (probably order the reapers ship to stop destroying organic life and perhaps send all the ships to the sun to blow up) and the catalsyt was happy with the conclusion. Why can't the catalyst do it themselves, why do they need shepard to sacrifice his/her life to do it. But of couse the story needs Shepard to sacrifice their life to produce a bittersweet ending and therefore logic has to give way to this forces sacrifice.
Writing 101 guys, the characters drive the plot, the plot doesn't drive the characters. Think what would Shepard do when face with this situation? then drive the plot in that direction. don't think Shepard has to sacrifice his life to save the day and then force Shepard to do that no matter whether it is in his/her character or not.
I just wish there was a renegade interrupt to shoot the starchild in the game. Oh well if shepard can't do it, I'm happy that Marauder Shields did it for me

HAHAHA! Now I'm imagining Marauder Shields with an Arnie voice - mostly because that's close to "CONSIDER THAT A DIVORCE!"
I could have done with someone coming along and shooting the star-child in the face before he gave a bunch of half-baked answers that just created plotholes.
