Edit: This is not about whether Mars Attacks! or the others mentioned in the description are to your liking or whether they're good films or not. That's not the point of the stamp. If you can mention better parodies than these, that's good, but again not the point.

Yeah, a stamp that needed to be done. I'm tired of all these people saying that anything that spoofs something, is automatically a parody. Well, they're not. A parody is when you grab a subject or two & then make a full length movie spoofing it in a smart, well written, & funny way. Austin Powers, & Mars Attacks are perfect examples.

Now as for the Aaron Seltzer & Jason Friedberg movies, those aren't anywhere near parodies (let alone even funny movies). Dressing actors up in Party City-level costumes, having them name who they're supposed to be and where they're from only to kill them off or do something completely pointless, isn't a parody. That's just referencing. If you can't have the characters in the film go a mere minute without having to yap what movie or show they're from, because you think your audiences are idiots if they can't figure it out (which the handful of fans they have actually are), instead of, you know, being a SMART WRITER, then you're doing it wrong.

And even IF you have to, for some reason, have characters state who they're supposed to be and from where, the least you can do is at least be smarter about it. Scary Movie managed to do that.

Mars Attacks, Robin Hood Men in Tights, Austin Powers, Space Balls, & Airplane are only a handful of good and real parodies, not none of that Vampires Suck or Epic movie bullshit.
