Ahh I love this green, it's really fresh and it's really nice to see it surrounding the warmer colours of the skin.
Makes me think of bamboos for some reason. XD

Heh. I'm glad, "Ta-ke" means bamboo in Japanese
Thanks for the comments, Cait!

I like the pose, and the green (and how the green almost turns "goldish" in some places)

i know you asked earlier in a journal entry or in another artist's comments about quitting your job and pursuing your art further in some art classes. i wanted to reply but i really didnt think i had any relevant opinions.

but i think i'll comment on it here: i think you're an amazing painter. you really have a way with colours. you use them effectively to create such mood and atmosphere. it's surprising that you've taught yourself all of these techniques. you're very bold to take up painting so easily, without any second thoughts. and so honestly, i really don't think you should quit your job to pursue art classes. i dont think you need them. i think you're perfectly fine exploring and developing your skills with help from your books and your fellow artist friends. just keep exploring and you'll become even more excellent a painter/artist, i'm sure of it.

as for this piece....the texture is gorgeous. i especially like that bottom right corner. that touch of blue coming thru is super nice. keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for the feedback and insight! Yes, I think you're right.. base on the way I taught myself (I don't read how-to-draw books nor have artists friends who can provide tips/guidance in where I live either) I don't believe I will enjoy being taught in the regular way. My wanted to get into artschool was more for the networking, finding channels, re how to get into the artworld and find out in what field I will enjoy work (most likely illustrations, but competition can be tough), guess I'd have to find another method. Meanwhile, I'll chugging along in my day-job, and continue to draw/paint whenever I have extra free time I guess.

Hi There!
You have just earned yourself an O.D.D. "Traditional Art: Paintings" feature ! congrats!
ODDS (oibyrd's daily deviations) are to honor the sometimes overlooked artists of dA that I personally think deserve some exposure and also, to introduce the more popular artists to the new/overlooked deviants. I prefer to showcase ALL artwork that I love (and that includes popular artists) in order to create a non-biased feature of the talent on dA. Please click the link below to see your work featured and to view other featured artists . If you prefer not to be a featured artist, just send me a note and I will remove you from the list. Cheers! green is my favorite color. And this is a very deep and natural, yet simple hue. I also like the fact the subject is facing away.

This particular green color is fresh and refreshing, like fresh vegetable/bamboo or lime juice or something lol. Another green, like my other painting "Jade" is a calming sort of green. Green colors are good for the eyes

Koony, if you don't mind me asking, but did you paint this on regular printing paper? Or some other special type of paper? Because I'm interested in giving acrylics a try and would like to know the best paper to use. xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

koony In reply to babbs [2006-06-12 10:31:08 +0000 UTC]

Hi Babbs, I'm glad to hear that you're interested in trying out acrylic To answer your question, I used a thicker paper (try 210gsm, acid free), regular printing papers maybe a bit too thin if you mix a bit of water into the acrylic paint. But for first practising, you may try out on the printing paper too.
