Well the way to go is simple, really. Since you are guaranteed to have the succession, should the mother fall, you should pretty easily be able to collude with the military to assist in your victory, in return for some sort of bonus, such as a promotion for high ranking officers, or better funding. That way, once the battle starts, you just call in the napalm, and thats pretty much it. I don't care how tough she is, napalm kills everything.

ohh so this is wings of fire, then? I remember I read like the first two chapters of that and then got bored, but from what I remember about the setting, do you know if napalm and other modern military tech even exists? I assume not, since the scavengers (which I can only assume are humans) were going after dragons with spears and stuff instead of strafing them with hueys and fighter jets (although that would be FUCKING SICK for a fight sequence)

Hehe yeah, I think it's one of the best possibilities...
Actually I think there could be multiple possibilities about how dealing with the successions (some kind of political reformation how it works, or Thorn having other children, but I think it's less likely that one) or maybe Sunny will change a bit.
She's kind etc... but she's not lacking will to protect and help the ones she love... and this is basically the whole meaning of the last book.
I guess we've just to wait and see what the author will choose.

I enjoyed how the first books had a darker theme, I THINK she softened a bit in the last ones. At least concerning the protagonists.

Also there is possibly some hints they' start to think at bloodless way to succession, and the mother could possibly simply retire at some point.
