In the original Wizard of Oz book by L. Frank Baum, Dorothy has magic silver slippers. When Judy Garland landed the role for the MGM movie, the decision was made to turn the shoes ruby red, so they would pop out more on camera. Now, almost everyone thinks of the red ruby slippers, and nobody remembers the silver shoes.

So here, I have Dorothy lost in the clouds, somewhere between the sepia tone of Kansas and the bright lights of Oz. As she is twirling through the clouds before landing, I have her ruby slippers turning silver from the back, as her black mascara is also turning color, from a forgotten black to a lively red, as she gazes on the Oz she once visited. Will she choose Kansas or Oz? I've always played with the idea that she would turn back someday.

(From this point in the sky, you couldn't see anything emerald from a plane, and Dorothy is about plane-high here.)
