He is also showing the beginner magic handposition for Shadow, which young casters have to train their casting to, as a method to control when they cast.

Omar has been trained since a young boy, so he himself has no need to use the handposition when casting freehand. he either casts from himself or from a band of 6 stone gargoyles that, similarly to the sentinel guardians, have been given life with healing crystals, and were created to serve the Warden.
