Or used to, as this is a closing picture for my askblog of three and a half years. It's been fun, but it's also been three and a half years.Also a redraw of the first picture I drew for the blog.

0.03-1.0 and brush pens for lineart, colouring is mainly markers with a bit of colour pencil, plus digital editing.

Do you use brown brush pens, or do you use black and then change their tone digitally?..

I used a brown brushpen and 0.03, 0.05 and 0.1 mm pens in the same colour, and a 0.05 mm black pen for depth in some places.
I've done what you described with some other pictures, though, this one is drawn with a calligraphy brush and liquid black ink, and then turned into an opacity layer mask for a layer filled with a pattern I made out of a scanned patch of brown brushpen scribble. I left the lineart opaque so it stands out the way it does in the dark parts.
This picture as well as these two are drawn with brown pens, though the lineart and marker are done on separate papers there, too. I like how the lineart looks more organic that way, with darker patches where two lines intersect and so on, and I set the lineart layer to multiply with these so it kind of looks like if I did it all on one paper, only it's neater this way with no bleeds and the lineart is easier to edit in case of inevitable mistakes (for that I do use the scribble pattern if it requires drawing new lines digitally).
Oh, and yeah, the signature is done with a black brushpen and given the pattern treatment. I'm very careful with my (only) brown brushpen but I have plenty of half-dry black ones lying around for scratchy lines, and for some reason it was important the signature look like that, lol.
