As much as I hate the short days during the winters here in Finland... I love summer nights... Those are the best... And they're so very short...

I agree. Definitely wish they were longer. It doesn't hurt that EVERYONE in Helsinki comes out to sunbathe in the summer. Some serious Nordic hotties up there!

Right now we're at the few months of summer and long/light summer nights in here... Love it so much... Love swimming and running in the middle of the night when everyone else are sleeping. (If it's up to me, I'll never move up to north... The days in there are even shorter during the winters...) But yeah... The hot or even warm summers in Helsinki... I don't go in there during summer that often and when I do, never during the weekends...

That's what I hear! I may of been a soft and mushy Californian, but even I noticed the winter wasn't as horrible as everyone warned me it would be. Finland probably knew I was visiting and didn't want to scare me off.

My better half had a job opportunity there that lasted just shy of a year. We only JUST recently got back to California.
P.S. I am sooo NOT going to miss the 16hr flight.

Oh man, my longest was only 9 hours, when crossing the Atlantic to there, but 16 hours sounds torture. I'm guessing it was straight from there to Helsinki though? I usually need to make 2 landings when visiting my boyfriend in Mississippi.

The winter *was* weird! Everyone kept telling me it was going to be a cold one and not only was it late, but surprisingly mild.
We managed to get a flight that had a layover in New York, so we got the long drag over the Atlantic done first. After that, its a straight shot to California.

Have you visited Finland? In the winter it is just like that here in Finland - darkness and more darkness - but in the summer here is nightless nights - sun shines also in the midnight!
