"'I'm so glad that I've been able to love you from the start' I'll sing these words to the sky"

Far from the shores a sad yet beautiful melody rang accross the sea.

A lone merboy sat among the jagged rocks that pierced the calm blue.  As he sang his blue eyes looked out onto the sea, as if wishing something to appear.

Merpeople were known to always sing, whether alone or with their 'friends'.  'Siren's songs' were what the land folk called their melodies.  But this was because a merperson's voice was so tempting, one would drown trying to walk towards the source.

But this male never sang in a group.  He had made a promise to himself long ago that he'd only sing alone until he found the one whose heart he was to sing to.

So far he had not found that one.

Day by day, when he had the time, he would go to various spots and sing.  Many times someone would appear, but it was never his 'one'.  Those poor souls met a cruel fate.  Either their vessil would crash into the rocks, or the merboy would lure them down and drown them in the foggy ocean, leaving their bodies for the predators of the sea.

"No one from the sea is for me.  People from land can't capture my eye.. Perhaps my 'one' is in the sky?"

Day by day the song would change.  The merboy would hope with all his might that his 'one' would soon hear it and come to him.

He sang his heart and soul out, his voice being carried by the wind to everywhere the air could touch.  Anyone who was willing to could hear him.

However the rumors of what had happened to the previous listeners had spread and soon no one would hear the merboy's song.

But he wouldn't give up.  He knew his 'one' was out there somewhere.  He could feel it.  Even though he had never met this person, he knew he loved them already.

He just hoped they would feel the same.

"Please... Wherever you are... Hear me sing my song... It's all for you.  If you would just listen once, it's all I'll ever ask of you.."

As time went by the boy's song grew weaker and weaker, just like his heart.  Almost giving up on finding his 'one'.

"It would have been better if I had never loved you from the start"

One day...

The songs stopped.
