"Thanks," Z murmured, "For ya know, forcing me to come to the festival."
Basaran admired the red color across Z's face for a moment before answering. "It iss no problem, dearesst."
"But it is." The half-elf insisted, his face serious despite the colorful lights and light atmosphere of the festival. "I... I know that im a real shut in. I get all focused on my projects and I start to ignore people, including you. Its not fair to yall. It not fair to you. I dunno how you always put up with me. Im- im your boyfriend and you shouldnt have to force me to come out to a festival and spend time with you. If I were you I... I would have broken up with me a long time ago. Im still not even sure why you started dating me in the first place."
Basaran paused in their movements, turning so that they fully faced Z.
"You have your flawss." They said softly, "But everyone hass flawss. Yess, you do ssome thingss that may irk me, like your alcoholissm and your tendenciess to get losst in your work and not take care of yoursself. I admit that ssometimess I feel more like your babyssitter than your ssignificant other." They cupped their hands on either side of Z's face, gently bringing it up from where it had fallen to face the ground. Z wouldnt meet Basaran's eyes, his face clearly reflecting the guilt he felt. "But I am willing to put in the work and effort to sstay by your sside. I am willing to work through my own sshortcomingss and annoyance to be able to ssee you when I firsst wake up in the morning. I do it because for every flaw you have, you have piecess of you that make it worthwhile. I only assk that you do the ssame for me."
While they were speaking Z finally met their eyes. His eyes shined with unshed tears, but Basaran could see a hint of disbelief. They hoped that with time they would be able to quell it.
"I..." Z faltered for a bit before he seemed to recover himself. He pushed his glasses up and rubbed at his eyes and leaned into one of Basarans hands while covering it with his own. "Sometimes I wonder if youre even more stubborn than I am. How the hell did I manage to bag you?"
Z let out a rather unmanly squeak as Basaran suddenly lifted him up and set him on a ledge so that the two were face to face. Basaran gave a cheeky smile as they set their hands on Z's knees. They could distantly hear the sound of the crowd gathering for the final firework show. "Ssomething about your rather ill-mannered disspossition really sseemss to get to me, apparantly."
"Oh, shut up and kiss me you giant white worm." Z growled as he grabbed Basaran and pulled them in.
The first of the fireworks went off as their lips met, showering them in a multitude of colors.

There was a whispered "I love you", but neither of them could tell who had said it first.

Z and Basi at the Fireworks Festival And so their plotline is set in motion.
Lowkey this was just supposed to be a quick thing but I ended up getting carried away woops
