DAILY SKETCH - #14 - Saturday, September 6, 2008WEEK TWO ENDS!!!!
"Cloud Strife" from Final Fantasy VII
There he is, Mr Emo himself :-P Those of you into video games, this guy needs no introduction. With his bird-like yellow hair and his ridiculously large Buster Sword (hell yeah!) he's ready to take down Shinra and go after Sephiroth.
I was trying to make his hair look more like it did in Advent Children/Crisis Core when they made him a little more "human" looking, but I think I put his hair up a little too high. Ah, well :-P
(if this gets coloured, I will be seeing if I can fix his hair a wee bit, but only if I don't end up making it worse, lol)
Well, Week 2 comes to a conclusion, tomorrow Week 3 begins along with the poll for Cloud and the rest of Week 2's sketches.

Aww. True, he is Mr. Emo Pants, but I can't help but love him and FFVII. Nice job on his hair- I can never get it right for some reason. That and the shoulder guard.
And you did great on the anatomy overall. He looks like he could crush Sephiroth's head with just his biceps! X]

For his hair, I just go nuts and start doodling in triangles all over the place. By the time I'm done, his head looks like abstract art.

lol yah thats why the AC and new CC "play arts" Cloud figures came in MIGHTY handy giving me a good look at where those spikes are supposed to go. Every time I've tried his hair before hand it just looked like a porcupine was eating his head and attacking the sky xD
Yeah, after Tifa I want to do FOR SURE (in no particular order) Sephiroth, Aerith, Barret, Zack & Vincent. Then I'll start doing some of the other characters (**coughcoughTURKScoughcough** :-P )and some of the AC redesigns as well as branching out into some of the other FF games. Gonna be a LONG journey :-P

I got Tifa for Christmas last year, and I'd like to find some of the others, especially Cloud and Yuffie.
Wow. Good luck with that. Zack's not as tough as Cloud, hair-wise. I've actually been using renders of them from KHII for reference, like [link] . They help a lot if you don't have the action figures.

If I could EVER find a Cloud w/Hardy Daytona figure that fell off the back of a truck I'd be in heaven :-P
And thank you for the link! That will come in handy for KH characters (at least the non-disney chars anyways :-P) I've never played through all of KH2, and dunno if you did, or at least know, but did they ever give a reason as to why the character "Axel" looks very close in style to Reno from FF7? I mean, he's got the cheek tattoos!!! :-P I've never found any mention other than "he looks a lot like Reno for some reason" lol

Well, I know they sell them at the FYE music stores. I remember seeing Yuffie, Reno, and Kadaj in there.
Yeah, I played through KHII at least once. And as for the Axel/Reno resemblance, Nomura only said that he made them similar just to experiment with a familiar character in a different setting.

Heard a rumor that Square is going to make an announcement about KH3 at the Tokyo Game Show. I'm not too sure how true the rumor was, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I kinda wish for like an "in-between" of the two. Cause if you look closely, the AC/CC hair is technically the same just REALLY short. I'd extend that mofo out so it's still realistic, but if Zack's hair can stick out that far in Crisis Core, so can Clouds! :-P
I've never played Suidoken to be honest, but I do know of it. You can always point me in the right direction ("him!" or "her!") with some refs on some websites, let me know which characters, etc as I really really like drawing RPG chars and would like to expand my horizons in them :-P So yeah, if you can help me out with some website refs and who to draw, plz let me know

[link] is my fave place on the net for Suikoden info and art. They have huge character database. This [link] should show you the page for the main character of the first game, and there's clicable art on the side (it gets bigger once youve clicked it). I've, of course, got my own list of favourite charactersfrom the various games and I'd be most willing to share that with you.
Oh, also, another suggestion, as I just met the man yesterday and got an original sketch from him of it, I gotta suggest you do Herb Trimpe's original Wolverine design.

The Suikoden games are really interesting in the way that they keep getting me to fall in love with the character designs of characters who are not essential to the storyline at all. Heck, some people even consider characters I like to be stupid designs, but I see them as fleshing out the world of Suikoden. Funnily enough, too, I bet I'd be the only one voting for half of them in your final polls 
This guy, mind you, as far as Suikoden is concerned is pretty important, pretty popular and one of my faves: Viktor [link] nicknamed "The Bear".

So, Viktor is an important and popular character, and the first dude was the main char. of the 1st suidoken game?
And yeah, I want to draw Squall as well (gunblade ftw), even though FFVII's universe is my fave, I do want draw characters from FFVIII, FFX & FFXII. FFXIII whenever that comes out, thank god that's getting an Xbox 360 release because I have one of those and not a PS3 yet :-P

lol i'll probably do something at some point for ffix, they're just a little more "stylized" than the other ones so I'd have to figure out how to handle 'em properly.
