Description "I am a leaf in the wind... But like a big, tough leaf. With swords and magic and stuff."

so ... I finally finished some drawings I had to do, my brother's tatoo and other stuff and have free time again to draw personal things. And since my character in wow is a monk and I enjoy all aspects of it, I decided to make a drawing portraiting the whole kit:

- the serene mistweaver in the left
- the "don't mess with me ... seriously, don't" brewmaster in the center
- and the "ready to beat you to a pulp" windwalker to the right.

I decided to theme their outfit towards their respective celestial "guide" (Yu'lon, Niuzao and Xuen) ... so basically they got:
- the mistweaver got a very adorned robe and all the beads and stuff you expect from a healer.

- For the brewmaster, I think bottles/barrels of secret brews stand for them as librams stand for paladins. So I decided to give her plenty of available brews to drink while fighting. For those not familiar with the idea ... imagine a pandaren doing this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDsJXF… . On a side note, I did realize that her eyes are focused at the "viewer" and not exactly at the same direction that the 2 others are looking at. But trust me ... in the later versions that gave her a much more "intense" eye-contact that I decided to leave this minor "mistake" pass.

- For the windwalker I always liked those "claw-type" metal gloves ... so I made her a more agile outfit but with strong platings covering hands/elbow/feet. Because this is basically what I have in mind when I think of my windwalker www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uue7gH… . I know this is not kung-fu per se .. but it's a much more raw and fierce use of hands and feet imo

So ... there you go ... 3 female pandarens, ready to beat stuff. And no .. no male pandaren because there's pretty much 321340987 drawings of fat male pandarens but very few of female pandarens that depict them as fierce fighters and not cute "^_^".

... that pretty much sums up what I've been working on lately.

I wish I could find the actual armors ingame  I have it as my desktop wallpaper   I'm a brewmaster/windwalker  panda monk on alliance side

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

krysdecker In reply to jathabu [2016-04-24 23:43:40 +0000 UTC]

unfortunately those are not based on ingame armors

the mistweaver is based on pandaren lorewalkers conceptart from wow
the brewmaster is based on a more "samurai" type of armor (kimono, the leather armor and the hardened platings on top)
the windwalker is based on tiger muay-thai gear from movies. I just liked the concept of focusing on a light armor with plated gauntlets and boots due to the focus on punches and kicks.

thanks, this one required a lot of planning. I spent months prior to the drawing, trying to figure out a scene I was satisfied with, and the drawing itself was very time consuming, but I got really really happy with the result

oh my GOD!! I could not fave this harder without my mouse exploding from the clicking!
This is visually impressive in both the lighting of and composition, as soon as I found something fascinating to look at my eye moved on and I caught something new. I love how you kept the pandaren ladies very on model while adding a degree of depth and detail that the game does not have. Yet not to the point of over cluttering or adding detail or the sake of it. Having mained a monk for almost the entirety of MoP (before they changed mistweaver too much) I am just DROOLING over that armor. It looks inspired from the game but improved upon with layering and keeping it functional as well as ornate.
I agree that there is not really enough 'badass' female pandaren art out there, though my husband and I play two twin sisters that are sinister and violent respectively

I sincerely hope blizzard features this so you can get more patreon subscribers & hopefully someday I will also be able to paint my characters with dynamic detail that you have done. Very inspiring!

I haven't looked up pandaren artwork in a good while on this site. This blew me away. The detail is incredible. And I love that they're ALL female pandaren. You're right. There isn't enough of them looking like this out there. All ready to destroy whatever the foe it is they're staring down. Even better is you did all their aspects of the class. The only thing I kinda have to disagree with is the mistweaver's armor. While Yu'lon is definitely a "caster" celestial, Chi-Ji is the one that specializes in the healing arts, as is evident by the legendary quest where Chi-Ji's challenge is to "heal the most grievous of wounds", while Yu'lon's test was to fight Wraithon and defeat him. The mistweaver's armor should've reflected Chi-Ji's followers. But that's very minor in my mind. The mistweaver looks too amazing to care much about which celestial she follows, as do the other two. And I have to say this about the windwalker. Those metal claw weapons look very cool and very dangerous. Don't shake hands with that pandaren. Already saved this as my background on my computer. You're the first to make me switch backgrounds from my friend's commissions for my Sonic the Hedgehog stories. This picture is just too amazing to not want to see it every day.

krysdecker In reply to nightshadehedgehog [2014-12-13 17:43:06 +0000 UTC]

they probably mixed up which celestial represented what at some point because the whole mistweaver kit was based on yu'lon (serpent stance, the statue, the skill using a green tint etc). But then the quests and storyline made chi-ji as the "healer". I kept the serpent instead of the crane because I think the visuals work better.

Glad you liked it and thanks for the well written comment

long time no peruse-through-gallery (aka)mr. Pepperwolf. Glad I stopped by. This is why. I love how you handled the lighting, and everything just feels solid. maybe a subtle thing, but the green in the shadow is actually my favorite part. if youre still taking any crits, my main crit would be, to overlap the white figure more with the red, as her (white) leg is creating this wierd tangent on red's hand, as well as to punch up the contrast of light and shadow more on the red figure, as its not as clear on her where the shadow and light areas are, as opposed to the other two figures. especially around her breastplate area and overall underplane bouncelight coming from the floor on all of them. I love their gestures and the whole composition in general. awesomesauce!

I always take critics seriously

after having this as my wallpaper for weeks straight, I noticed some areas that could be improved. The interaction with the central panda's hand and the one in the left indeed bothered me a little ... on the red panda as well there's also a rookie mistake that the "rope belt" is not casting shadow on the red plating on her waist, but is on leggings beneath it. I totally forgot that. Overall there are some areas that I could have made better (as always), but all things considered I REALLY liked the result. The end result got better than even what I was expecting .. the small mistakes are more on the "technical" side of it, so I leave them there and take them as learning process to improve other drawings.

The Yrel drawing that I'll finally be able to show in the next few days (it's finished but since it's part of a collab, I can't publish it before it goes public) have a small improvement compared to this one ... And I also took the learning from those 2 to apply to the next one I have in mind (that will likely be done early next year) .. Thanks for taking your time to dig this one
