Description My character Ronan from 's rp, Shadows of Feardorcha.

He's a large whitetail buck from the Crags sporting non-typical horns. Non-typical antlers are caused by a distortion in the schedule of hormone levels that generally follow the seasons. His anterls grow to enormous sizes because he often does not drop them. These he has worn for well over a year.

I think you got confused when you read this. Lol. No, you're right, deer do not wear their antlers for over a year, they usually only wear them for about half, give or take a few months.

With Ronan, he suffered an injury to his reproductive organs (AKA gonads ) when he was 3, so the schedule of higher and lower hormonal levels that a normal deer has as they live through the seasons, has been severely FUBARed. Scientists believe that there are several reasons behind the growth of non-typical horns such as genetic mutations (something like King Cheetah spots, or even prehistoric genes that still get passed along like how some deer have canines and some dont.) bone caners or tumors that cause erratic growth, a disease, or an interrupted flow of testosterone. Bucks rely upon their hormonal ups and downs during the seasons to regulate the growth of their antlers. Problem with Ronan is that his hormonal levels are all messed up due to his injury. His body literally doesn't know when to start, or stop growing his antlers, or even when to drop them. Non-typical antlers are rare, but there have been several case studies where a deer with non-typical antlers keeps them well past dropping time, and even for several years (that's why they get so freakish and big because they just keep growing)

Wow....didn't mean to like...splurt like an encyclopedia, I've just done a lot of research on this topic so I can answer questions/confusion like this. XD

no thats cool. im a former wildlife bio. major and whitetails are my true passion. so thats interesting. this deer is actually real? i mean its winky was injured ur something and it started growing as a non-typical? crazy stuff. hm, but ive never heard that they keep growing them year round. at least not in the wild. big antlers come from big genes. they would have to keep their velvet on through winter. which means they would need the nutrition to keep the antlers growing as well as keep their bodies healthy. and that would be extremely taxing. they would most certainly die the first season, at least in more northern climates. hm, i'd like to read some about this.
