This is an odd point to make. I was once looking at the skeleton of a roadrunner, trying to get an idea of what it's walk cycle looks like under all the flesh and feathers and whathaveyou. At a stand, the thighs are virtually horizontal, and they move quite a bit in locomotion.
That said, while the battletech figures have often been modeled on raptor locomotion, they have frequently de-emphasized the importance of the thigh, with some chassis eschewing the limb entirely--the Madcat, for example.
Problem is that realistic limb posture just doesn't look right on what people expect to be heavy and ponderous, gives it a different character altogether.
It takes a lot of imagination to create a visually appealing chassis, and if you look at the old battletech source material, a lot of the designs are just plain awful. But I like this. The glow of the guns is a particularly nice feature.

"doesn't feel right" is what it is. Doesn't feel right. I mean when you work on something there always will be either some mistakes or just mediocre design decisions, but you fail to find them cause you either in hurry, or tired, or just not skilled enough.
Usually you can find some issues and adjust image to make it "feel right" at least for my current skill level, but not always. It just bugs you completely in process most of the time like a noisy fly you can't get rid of. Can be for whatever reason, not just design.
