Description Yet another addition to the series of images for the Japanese fairytale of "Issun Boshi" or the "One Inch Fellow," this image depicts the very start of the story, the moment the reader is introduced to an elderly couple, one that had long since yearned for children but were never fortunate enough to have their own.

One day, as the two strolled through the woods together, they heard the sound of a child crying, yet it was a tiny sound, one which seemed quite distant to their ears. However, it was also a powerful voice that somehow compelled them to discover its source.....

Finally after searching the forest thoroughly, the elderly couple finally discovered a tiny baby atop a red blanket; a child quite literally an inch long. It was for this reason that the two named this child "Issun Boshi," meaning "One Inch" boy, man, or fellow (depending on the version of the tale). Overjoyed to realize their wish for a child of their own, the two carefully cradled the boy in the red cloth as they continued on their way home; now finally as a family.....

The painting itself was drawn in pencil on cold press water color paper, and then painted using opaque water color paints.
