Very timely message. Definitely been having this conversation over the last few years. It's been a bit of a wake up call to realize that what I naively defined as "success" when I was younger is practically impossible to achieve (and if achieved, it comes at a cost). It's starting to sink in that true success means that you enjoy the journey--whatever the outcome may be. That's time well spent. <3

let the demons talk, your fans are still here. I for one am very glad you managed to follow your dream as a professional artist, not many of us do. So go kick those demons down, cuz they talk shit.

Besides, even if your amount of talent and expertise (barring how old you are when or if you’ve achieved it) doesn’t make you a prolific cartoonist and your efforts don’t lead to worthwhile success, your passion for the arts as well as your good character will hopefully still come through. And you’ll have the support, respect, empathy, and trust of your “professional cartoonist” friends who acknowledge your circumstances as such.
There may even be those who manage to see some of your work, and gain something out of it nonetheless even if it’s not what they’re otherwise used to reading or even if comics and cartoons aren’t their primary interest, proving that life goes on. For better or worse, either it stays with them or is forgotten, that’s what Art is all about. Right?

You've definitely captured the essence of anxiety. I'm not always great about telling it to shut up. But I'm doing art now because I enjoy it. Putting it off because I've waited too long will just mean I'm even older and further "behind the curve" the longer I wait.

I just published my first book. I know the feels of this. But I came to the best conclusion I could...it doesn't matter whether people like it. It doesn't matter whether it sells. What matters is the fact that I had fun writing it...and that I did something I've always wanted to do. When I hold in my hands a copy of the book I wrote...it doesn't matter what anyone or what my inner demons say...I did it. No one can take that from me. No on can ever say I didn't try! Your short comic...meant the world to me.
