I love how this makes She-Ra and Adora look like they're conspiratorially ready to face the world together - the show seemed to focus more on Adora's discomfort with her She-Ra half and her struggle to fit the two parts of herself together.Β I'm looking forward to her reaching a point of acceptance and cooperation between her two selves (assuming there's a season 2!), and this seems like exactly what that would look like!

Look, watching the new She-Ra I must say that the new aperarencia, the design of it and very ugly really, ok the old one was exaggerated, but it was better, She-Ra was a beautiful woman because strength and beauty walked together in the drawings of heroes of that time (1980s). But the new series did not do much to make the She-Ra better, the design, the colors of the design are very ugly even, bland. The new story, show did not do / nothing interesting, only told the past of a secondary character (Catra) and others, nothing really good or fun, and regular. But honestly the new She-Ra really looks like a boy, a transvestite, and androgyne stayed, look I say this without prejudice. I do not think She-Ra's new design goes very far, nothing in it has caught the attention, nor the history, nor the drawings and the design, and even the colors were agreed I think that of 3 seasons at the maximum, this if the secund is at least interesting.

History is cool. New design is great, because it carry the message they want to show about her: she is strong. Every time she appear on screen as she-ra, you can smell thoughness, and think: this one can break a tank in half, and it's not surprising.
And it make sense, considering that in this story, she has been raised inside the Horde, which does not sound like the kind of place where you can learn feminity at ALL. She was raised as a warrior, and it's only fitting she look like one.
As for the rest: she-ra oldstyle was weak in term of storyline, it was just a dumb, basic plot made to sell toy. In this one, they try to give character motivation, objective and coherent backstory.

I love this version better than the original because it has plot, character development, nice and cute animation, good visuals/background, great character design, and chemistry between Catra and She-Ra. And She-Ra is NOT a damsel in distress like in some episodes in the original.

I hate the new design but I can acknowledge your effort. You tried and replecated the new She-Ra design quite well. Good for you. But maybe you could put your personal spin into the face, make her more feminine.
I too am disappointed that the new She-Ra is obviously an "10 year old girl", that obviously makes a lot of adults fall in love with her. Because why else should so many adults(?!?!) be upset by other people critizising the new design? The original design of She-Ra was something both genders and boys and girls from 10 years onward could and would like. Girls would want to be like her - strong, independet and yet beautiful, desirable by men. Women could have an icon defending everything that is represents womenhood. Men would want a woman like her - ideally build, strong to give birth, care and protect her children.
That's what is disappointig about all the new reboots or the redesign of old characters. And even if she is supposed to be 10 years old (which sounds like a very weak excuse for the new gender neutral design)... I have seen many 10-year olds in my time and the majority of them looked more graceful, more feminine and - yes - even more cute than what is presented to us now.

you don't need an excuse to make a female character less sexy it can just be a preference lol
and idk what 10 year olds you hung out with but i was a 10 year old girl and definitely wasn't 'graceful' wtf?
plus it's not even like the redesign isn't traditionally feminine.. she's got long flowing hair, a soft face and the ruffled skirt thing over her tight shorts. red lipstick, big boobs and a sexy corset cut aren't the only right ways to be a girl/woman. and even if she was actually redesigned to look like a tomboy - say, with short hair, sharp features and loose clothing, why would that be wrong? is she-ra's sexy outfit in any way inherent to who she is as a person?

EruDaan In reply to zakuro5 [2018-07-31 22:46:14 +0000 UTC]
of course there are graceful 10 year olds... whose which do dancing as a hobby for example. well... if you want a tomboy as the personification of womenhood as She-Ra HAS BEEN... then why not actually turn the star of this particular comic show into A BOY? She-Ra, as I said, is the personification of all that is powerful and female. There is nothing, absolutley nothing, wrong with the way she was designed in the eighties. And do not let blue-haired woman with a degree in "women studies" tell you otherwise. "Beauty", as they say" lies in the eye of the beholder". But, alas, there are beauty standarts in our society that are almost two thousand years old and there is nothing wrong with them. We, the western people, managed to reach this point in history... only to throw everything overbord?Β
In the end we can discuss this matter all day long and we will not come to any conclusion. So let`s part in peace - I am sad to see the powerful female that She-Ra once was go. And you are happy - or at least content - with the new design ... a boyish teenager.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
zakuro5 In reply to EruDaan [2018-08-01 09:22:26 +0000 UTC]
why can't the "personification of all that is powerful and female" have shorts and small boobs? it's not like a big-breasted woman is more of a woman than a small-breasted one
"if you want a tomboy,Β why not actually turn her into A BOY?" because tomboyish girls aren't boys???? like i said, this design is no less female than the old one. it's just less sexy.
"beauty standarts in our society that are almost two thousand years old" let me tell you a secret...... those standards changed a LOT during those 2000 years. For example, did you know in the middle ages small boobs, an incredibly high forehead and, in some cases,Β a round belly,Β were the pinnacle of fashion?
(also, there's actually a lot wrong with today's standards! literally all of my female friends are constantly unhappy because they don't fit these arbitrary standards!! so maybe it would be nice to see some heroines who don't fit them as well, so that young girls may still feel good about themselves even if they don't have the "perfect body"!!)
and if you think a "boyish" (as in, not sexy) teenager can't also be a powerful female then maybe reconsider how you define femaleness and power
π: 1 β©: 1
EruDaan In reply to zakuro5 [2018-08-01 21:34:09 +0000 UTC]
now, now... are beauty standarts arbitrary? of course they are. in almost every society, continent and time there where arbitrary norms and rules for females (and often, especially in modern times) for men. And what is so hard to do some sport, do some fitness, eat healthy and DO NOT GET FAT?! There, I said it!Β
But, please, tell me - why is it so wrong for She-Ra to be sexy? I gave you my arguments. Where are yours?
And why is it betterΒ -or at least as good as - to have an almost androgyne character as the new She-Ra?
π: 0 β©: 1
zakuro5 In reply to EruDaan [2018-08-02 08:14:23 +0000 UTC]
buddy, body fat is NOT the only element of today's harmful beauty standards... it's everything - height, hair quality, nose shape, eyebrow shape, eye size and shape, boob size, leg shape, lip shape, face shape... all of those i've heard in some version of the "i'm so ugly, nobody will love me, i look like shit" rant
i don't need to give you arguments for why it's wrong for she-ra to be sexy because i'm pretty goddamn sure i never said that it's wrong for she-ra to be sexy. all i've been doing is defending the not-sexy redesign that you seem to take such issue with.
"I gave you my arguments." and i gave you counter arguments.
you said the new design was disappointingly "gender neutral", "boyish", not "graceful", "cute" and "feminine" enough.Β
i said that removing the big breasts, the red lipstick and adding less revealing clothing didn't make her less feminine, just less sexy (and also that the new design still looks pretty traditionally feminine with the long hair and clothes)
you asked me why i think it's wrong for she-ra to be sexy - which is not a counter argument to what i said
you said that while beauty is subjective, there objectively are beauty standards in our culture, as old as 2000 years, that the old design fit into, and that there's nothing wrong with these standards so there's no reason to not make the redesign fit them as well
i said that these standards are by no means 2000 years old, that there's plenty wrong with them, and that there is value to showing characters who don't fit these standards so that children watching may feel less pressure to fit them
you said that while these standards are arbitrary, there's nothing wrong with them because they push people (especially girls and women) to lead a healthy lifestyle and not get fat (which, there are plenty of people - including a friend of mine - who do live a healthy lifestyle but are unable to be thin because genetics, but that's not my point right now)
i gave examples of beauty standards that do not push people to get fit, just to feel bad about every goddamn part of their body. if you have a counter argument to that, feel free to say it
you said you're "sad to see the powerful female that She-Ra once was go"
i said that an unsexy teenage girl is still a female and she can be powerful, so there's nothing in the redesign that suggests she-ra won't be a "powerful female"
so to answer your question, "why is it betterΒ -or at least as good as - to have an almost androgyne character as the new She-Ra?"
-i have given you my reasoning as to why the new design is no less female than the old one
-i never said it was a better design; i said it wasn't a worse one, which is what you were saying
-it's as good as the old one because there's nothing making it worse. your reasons are that it's less female, and being female is an important part of she-ra - and i explained that the new design is no less female, or even less feminine, just less sexy. "why is it so wrong for She-Ra to be sexy?" it isn't. but why do you think it is wrong for she-ra to not be sexy?

I think my only complaint is that She-Ras desing was changed without any need for it.
Oh, and genetics are NOT AN ARGUMENT for being fat. Do sports, go jogging, eat salads (without dressing!) and have some effing self-discipline! A friend of mine managed to get herself from being fat to a normal size/weight. Did she complain about it being hard and that cannot eat her favourite foodstuff? YES, of effing course she did. But nonetheless she made it. Now she`s got herself a boyfriend and also is pregnant from him. There... are.... no... excuses... for... being...fat! GAHH!

like it doesnt matter what kind of argument you were trying to make, the minute you compare a cartoon show to something as extreme as nazis you lose all credibility, like ,,,,its not that big of a deal. its just she-ra. like no one's given a shit about he-man in decades and now all of a sudden people are shitting themselves over she-ra's ass crack not being visible. In my opionion it is unbelivable astonishing arrogant behavior to think that it is a-okay to just take something beloved and well aged and turn it into something else with an underlying political message.
What do YOU like or love? Mind if we change it into something right wingers could and would use as an political platform?! YES? NO? MAYBE?
