My mom is growing a vegetable garden in raised beds in her yard, but the whole area is blocked off and she lets her tortoises run around in them. It's beautiful in the Spring when everything is blooming. :} Her first sunflower popped up yesterday so I drew one for her mother's day picture.

Love you, mom!

just wondering why you call it 'turtle in a garden' when it is a tortoise? is it because tur-tle sounds cuter? It is terribly cute!!

Yup I feel like nobody else would recognize it as a tortoise either.

i've always been envious of your cellshading skills, I can never do it DX.

I disagree with the comment that the pic is disconnected, can't pinpoint the light source though

Kuitsuku In reply to francis-john [2011-05-09 14:38:12 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I didn't pick a light source so that's most likely why. I didn't expect to color it completely so I shaded a few areas, then changed my mind. Good pinpoint!

This is a very well done illustration- I could expect this to be in something like a children s book. Great job!

One thing that bothers me, however, is that the pieces don't seem to fit together. The tree, plant, and turtle all seem pretty disconnected from the baclground because of their high contrast in comparison to everything else. BUt otherwise, I see no flaws~ Awesome~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kuitsuku In reply to i-Moosker [2011-05-09 01:48:51 +0000 UTC]

Do you think the tree would've fit better if I blurred the background a bit, including the tree? I was considering playing with the depth more but I didn't want to be too bold.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

i-Moosker In reply to Kuitsuku [2011-05-09 02:51:58 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm.... perhaps blurring could give it a greater depth... but perhaps if you made a lower saturation in the background, it could contrast the high saturation in the foreground and therefore give it greater depth? Because you usually want your viewer to focus on the stuff in the foreground, a duller background would allow the view "zoom in" onto what is important
.. Ahh I hope that made any sense whatsoever? You don't have to follow my advice though~

Kuitsuku In reply to i-Moosker [2011-05-09 12:33:03 +0000 UTC]

It is desaturated on my monitor :s I can push it some more.

i-Moosker In reply to Kuitsuku [2011-05-09 16:00:23 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm really, is it? Well hm well then perhaps my computer screen isn't picking it up as well...

Regardless, it looks good for what it is~
