The amazing videogame Nier automata came out recently, and we have seen two reactions from the politically correct, social justice warrior camp. One has been to completely ignore the existance of the game, even if it has a strong female protagonist, wide female cast and boy in distress scenes. The other has been to hate and critcize it because the protagonist is sexy and has an “unrealistic” design, and to shame those who like the game with lines like “you only like the game because she shows panties and you’re a virgin” and all that usual retarded arguments, because we all know that what they’re truly about is puritanism. The answer from Yoko Taro, creator of the game, to this accusations, and to questions as to why he did the characters that way, has simply been: “I just really like girls”.
And thats how simple should fucking be. You don’t need to do realistic designs, unless you’re purposedly going for a realistic setting. You’re working with fiction, with fantasy, with sci-fi, with androids in a far future, with anime style settings where people can jump a mile or blow up a planet, with superheroes who can control magnetism. You don’t fucking have chain to designs to realism, just do whatever you like and think is cool. There are a hundred reasons why ditching realism helps doing cooler designs, and those design, and sexy characters, are more interesting to the eye, help to create empathy for the characters (morals have a beauty bias), and help to attract more consumers. You don’t need to give a realistic explanation as to why they’re that way, you don’t need an excuse as to why you did a sexy women or an unrealistic design. Just do it because you like it, and thousands of people like you like it. And those who don’t like it can just fucking go watch something else.

Well to be fair, sometimes there IS a legit reason, like Quiet actually needing minimal clothing or Morrigan Aensland being a literal sex demon or Mai Shiranui actively aiming to distract opponents, but yeah, in general, this is excellent logic.

Right, in real life would be absurd to have an armor with unprotected cleavage, but when you're watching a work in which they can jump 30 feet, lift cars and shoot fireballs, it's clear that realism is not what they're striving for, and the hole in the armor will never be an issue story wise.

Honestly artists should be free to design however they want, it's their work and not anyone else's. (Unless they are being hired to make it for someone else.)
But most virtue signaling idiots would say we shouldn't portray attractive women in games or movies because it is unfair to real women. Most people can separate reality from fantasy in their heads, except sjw's. Not to mention men also have expectations to meet, such as having the body of a god (like Thor in avengers) and men get ridiculed for being fat, losing hair and becoming bald, not having enough money for a date and it's not ok to make fun of a woman's age or weight.

I hate that people have been so distracted and absorbed by their extreme liberal morals, it's fine to prefer a less sexy chick as a lead, but don't go being a dick to the artists and creators, like in MGSV I love Quiet and Kojima, I think his, "Oh but she needs to dress like that to live cuz wired science" is a pretty piss poor argument, just say ya like the female form mang, this is a great game and it is being tossed aside cuz a game in an apocalyptic setting with weird robots and dickless Setheroths is unrealistic in body types... Well, I going to guess you mean the sexual revolution, that was an actual movement. Sexual expression and freedom was view so negatively and they were liberals. That is the kind of liberal I am, for freedom of speech and expression, not really sex orientated but if I must, I will. I'm not saying these people can't say these things, but that doesn't mean they can bully others to stop when they want to express themselves creatively or artistically like Kojima and Toro. Liberals have got us to progress this far and it's great! We have gay marriage, support for trans people, a 'whatever you do you fam' kind of outlook on sex and so many other positive advancements. Now the vocal majority have went from these liberals to the extreme liberals who want us to regress back to be more puritan again. We can't like sexy women, we can't have the antagonists be anything but white, and when we do get an awesome, strong female or minority lead, it is some how racist, sexist, homophobic, or whatever buzzword they use now to shut conversations down or ruin peoples' careers or lives. It's pathetic what it means to be a liberal now and when people and companies are forced to submit and pander to these demands, or else be on the wrong side of history, the extremists are never satisfied and the products become total failures like the Ghostbusters movie for example. I just hope we can snap out of this victim complex and act like adults and not over grown children, and that's sad to hear from some talentless 16 year old on an art website...

True, true, they also have some pretty stupid ideas on how to fix these 'Problems' as well. 'Oh let's stop traffic on highways!' 'Yeah! I feel like we are slowly devolving at this rate... What ever happen to peaceful protests? Like holding a sign on a sidewalk? Christians and Atheists seem to be causing little trouble like this. But Yoko likes girls, so he made a girl he liked... It isn't like you get her panties every chance you can, you do get flashes of it, but that's just fan service, and that is totally fine for a creator to do. In Bayonetta, my friend isn't into chicks, so she didn't pay too much attention to parts when Bayonetta did sexy things. Or how my father and boyfriend felt play Metal Gear, seeing naked men, their asses bare or in spandex, or homoerotic behavior. I might not be able to view this from a straight woman's view too well for being bi, but I can say that most of the time I was too busy paying attention to the game, it's story, and it's game play to be too hung up on the extremely bare male and female bodies before me. But I guess in the end it's whatever, you do you, just wanted to throw in my 10 cents, maybe give you a view of why it doesn't matter.

I have to make something clear here.
I love the design of 2B, it's beautiful.
What i definetly not love is the voyeuristic camera.
It is made on full purpose to look under her skirt.
Thats absolutely creepy if you ask me.
Another killer is the fact, that you can manualy even remove the skirt completely and have her bare butt pushed in your face at any given point.
Those things have nothing to do with a "little fanservice".
But what is really annoying is the fact that people seem to see Taro's reply as valid.
Making a girl the main character is because "you like girls".
Making a girl have a complex personality and kick ass is because "you like girls".
Implementing gameplay mechanics to be a creeper and making the naked butt of said girl the main character is definetly not because "you like girls".
It's because you like looking at girls, or more like, you like to look at girls butts or you like to fap.
You definetly do nothing negative to someone when you like them.
His point is valid to a certain degree but not the answer to the critique that people give him.
Oh and on a more important note to most people on this site:
Beeing an artist and doing what you like does not make you invulnerable to critique.
Critique is helping you grow and it can change the way you think.
Challenging the way i think made me grow as a person several times and it will make you a better artist for sure.
