Hotaru thinks she's the bomb. A try hard who does her best to dress fashionably and won't go out until she's looking tip-top shape-- especially her hair, it's gotta be styled. While she's generally nice to others, she can also be seen as nosy or rude with her impulsive and self-assertive behaviour. Or at least she tries to be. It's really a farce that has had careful thinking done before acting. The girl actually has frequent cowardly moments, especially towards heat and fire- where she'll stand meters away and yelp if near. Other fears include pain and abandonment due to her past. It makes things difficult for her to connect with others which is why she has trouble with commitments. Working odd jobs was perfect for Hotaru and her low obligations, since getting attached to something would only cause unnecessary concerns. She often boasts about herself a lot but always fails to deliver- being the first person to run at the drop of a hat. A coward through and through, Hotaru values her own self-preservation above all else.
Background:
Hotaru belongs to a family of three that consists of her and her parents. Her father was a pyrotechnician; he made fireworks and often worked with flames. This was the cause of her trauma during childhood that still haunts her today. Hotaru's mother was your typical housewife but always loved a thrill, hence choosing such a husband with a dangerous occupation. They lived in the countryside (away from the metropolis), which is also why Hotaru is ignorant because she's often out of the loop with city life and politics etc. She had a happy life that was filled with lots of playing around and doing whatever she wanted. Hotaru wasn't really educated properly due to her being home schooled, however she was very dexterous. This helped her pick up basic skills like hand sewing and cooking, although she always cooked on low heat and stood as far as possible from the fire.
The war hit and Hotaru's beloved father disappeared. Her mother, in grief, caught illness from nuclear radiation and passed away not long after. Left with no one to look after her, she collected the only mementos of her parents. Sunglasses from her mother and the lighter from her father. Although the latter would be only a treasured keepsake and never put to use.

Hotaru's uncle, who lives in Argent, suggested she move in with him to care for since she was underage (8 years old) to be by herself. There was no other options for her, plus the air was cleaner there too with better civilization. When Hotaru was old enough, she decided she'd enter his business of taking on odd jobs and help make a living. Such jobs would include manual labour, babysitting, simple repairs and such (basic jobs that anyone could do with time and little skill). Before she was of age though, the girl did simpler things and earned a few coins in order to get an early start. Finally, Hotaru was ready to take on the big jobs yet refused to step out of the wing her uncle had sheltered her with and thus, continues to rely on him.
