Leonidas would be proud of that image. I love the glowing eyes and the gold details best.

Really nice but you can't chance the rd color of the spartan cape.Thought you may have a reason so did the spartans whene the made their capes red. They did it so that stains from their blood would no leave marks

The only quarrel I have with it is that the Spartans did not have crest on their helmets.

Dude, I've read tons of history books on it, and I've been to Greece. I've been obsessed with them for years man. No crests, 'cept for the high rankers, like generals and shit. That's how you can tell a sculpture of a Spartan from any other Greek soldier.

cheeseforthesoul In reply to PlangWithFire [2006-10-15 06:59:17 +0000 UTC]

The Spartans -did- have crests.

It was to make them appear taller to their enemies. Part of the intimidation factor they had going. Long hair and beards, polished armor and shields, even the visors of their helmets. All part of the intimidation factor. They also sang before, during, and after battles.

My ancestors.

I recently visited Greece, and at the museum in Athens I asked the guide about the distinguishing characteristics of the Spartans. One of them was specifically no crests except on officers.

The thing about painting or drawing in the army is that once people find that you're good at it you have to do it all the time. T shirts, company logos, rocks at NTC etc.

mwhahaha I'm SO sure this will have many NS boys in stitches.

Good work. You could try working in some of the oranges of the bg into the shadows of the cloak, as well as the mountains, and soldiers. It'll help to make your subjects "sit" better into the picture. Of course, that's only one way of doing it, so you can use your discretion.
