Well, a lot of people have been asking me to create a tsumami kanzashi tutorial. So here it is - well part 1 at least.Other parts:

this is an extremely helpful tutorial, and I'm really glad you posted!
I know you said that the best results come from lightweight silk and cotton, and I wanted to know which kinds you use and where you get them from... I've read that a lot of these are made from habotai, and I'm pretty sure I can only find that online...

Thank you! Habotai is used traditionally, but it can be expensive and hard to find. Personally, I use polyester lining fabric; it's inexpensive, comes in a wide variety of colours and can be found in almost any fabric store.

Do you HAVE to starch the fabric? What happens if you dont?

Starching the fabric makes it stiff. So if you don't, it will probably be floppy and ugly. That's just my guess. Starching is not difficult or expensive and can be bought in most stores like Wal Mart.

Erm...Is there anyway I could use a couple teaspoons of corn starch in a pan of water that has been heated and then cooled slightly? O_o
Cause I have plenty of cornstarch.

and potato starch is commonly used in Europe to starch clothes.. rice starch is used in Asia, becouse of a lot of rice xD

from my chemists point of view, it doesnt matter, which starch it is, but popcorn starch can make white textile into white-yellow . try to experiment and see

hmm ah- no, no petal-falls. it will be accessory for hair near the head so fall wouldnt swing in air freely >.< So maybe wire addon - dunno theme, maybe small wire butterflies, or something nice

Yeah I get what you're saying...I'm wrapping some wires with thread right now. :3 I hope it comes out well I also made one of the flowers for the project already and it didn't take me very long I just have other things to do. You know? :3

As you can see, this is my attempt. Short of material, I found only this one tough enough to be shaped (in my bags of textiles from my friend) : [link]
But it was very nice to have it finally done and see, how big it is, when I used 5 cm squares
I bought nice and simply flitters I can use like center of flovers (gold and silver) and pearl-thread and base :awww: mabe I will do WIP next time. it will be very nice I hope.

It looks good. XD Kinda better than mine actually.I find it hard to fold the petals like that.:/ I'm still not sure how yet. I made mine from folding triangular shapes.
:3 I like the little gem by the way XD It's cute. It reminds me I have some red ones that look like the one you used and some tear drop shaped ones in various colors!

next time I will make kanzashi of 3 flowers at least - one big 2 or 4 smaller + petals-fall (3 tails or 5)
