I think a more accurate description for the two is that water is the reduced version of atmospheric oxygen. Vice-versa, atmospheric oxygen is a more oxidized version of water

Just here for the science. Quick fact is OH is a basic, H2O is neutral, it’s only when you add a third hydrogen bond do you get the acidic H3O. So think of H2O as the perfect sexy wet 3 way between these elements.
