Description This map is part of the alternative timeline map series: The Icelandic Atlantic Commonwealth Series
[Fyrir íslenska útgáfu sjá: [IS] Islenska Atlantshafssamveldid - Yfirlitskort ]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a little alternative historical piece in which Iceland has a population of over 1 million and is a significant power in the North Atlantic. Furtermore, the medieval Norse settlement in Greenland was never abandoned. Big thanks to Fenn-O-maniC   for doing the coat of arms, of which I used a slightly edited version. A more detailed map with a more detailed backstory will be published in the next few days.

It's an awesome idea and really well done but it's a shame how you changed the arms <:c Putting the flag on the arms is a no-no and I'm a little allergic to changing historical arms to fit a current regime (the regional ones in this case).
But anyway, awesome map and idea

Well thanks for the feedback! However, you can see that both the current OTL arms of Iceland, and the previous OTL Royal arms from 1918 depicts the flag on the shield. I decided that the arms of the IAC should be based on the 1918 arms which is in my avatar

I know, which is why I don't like nor approve of the current arms of Iceland
And if by "arms from 1918" you mean the ones with the eagle, that's the other way around. The flag was a banner of arms.

Same thing Seriously, when a country has historical arms, they should be glad and use them -_- Not many countries are so lucky . . .

Ah I get your point. Well yeah, I agree with you on that it'd be cool had they kept the falcon. It's kind of unique also isn't it, that particular bird?

Oh definitely. In Europe it's mostly a Slavic symbol used in the countries that were a part of some empire (Czechia, Slovakia, Yugoslav countries, etc.). There was (And still is) an organization called Sokol (falcon) which was something like scouts but it also ensured a cultural upbringing and the kids that went there later formed a core part of the national armies of the future states. It's even active in the US today.

That looks really awesome, cool plot that the Vikings in Greenland never died out I love this names!
What makes the map also look very cool is the height difference in the ocean.

Keep up this work^^

Thanks. Yeah it began as project for coming up with Icelandic place names in Greenland. I'm still working on the 'original' map, which has plenty of place names, but is most relevant for speakers of Icelandic. And I agree that the sea elevation gives the map a much more depth. Its important because it mostly depicts sea
