2nd place contest prize for !Headshot | Basic Background
It's been a while since I got a chance to do a headshot like this!
I tried really hard for the shading this time, since a real zoomed in picture like this is the perfect chance to work on that! I paid a lot of attention to values like I usually do in my most recent pieces, but tried being more free with colours like I was 3-4 months ago. That did result in this taking an absurd amount of time for a headshot, but I'm quite happy with the results!
I still have 2 more drawings to finish, and once those are done I can finally start opening up commissions again

This picture is nice, but can I give some advice?

The chin is really pointy (tes, even anime girls have softer chins), so maybe in the future try softening that up a little. Also, the nose is kinda defying the persepctive of her face, which makes it seem as though her nose is really long. The mouth is a bit high upβ¦ maybe try to place them lower in the future. And a smaller detailβthe handβitβs really well drawn, as hands are hard to draw, but the outline of it looks really small compared to the rest of the drawing which makes it seemβ¦ off? I donβt know a good word to use lol.

I'd like to add a more detailed comment cause I really feel like I want to. You can of course not mind this. XD
The minimal details of the nose allows the attraction of view toward the mouth or eyes which are looking at the headphones, therefore switches the attention there. I also love the way she opened her mouth as she sings, not the cute but rather cool type. Now onward on the shading, a really cool style, the usage of blue tones as a sort of secondary light, a bright yellow as the highlight and purple as a tone for the shadow. Reminds me of someone that used to tip me with some coloring methods in digital painting.
I'd like to point out something here that you may have settled to adjust to or just missed out (or I don't know XP). The thumb of her hand has some disoriented shape, it can't be helped perhaps, hands are more of the harder areas to do. Another is the thickness of the supposedly outlines around the areas of the headphones, at that part, it makes the nekoears and its speaker look flat. And I guess the last part, there may have been too much shadows on the base of her hair, behind the left nekoear, lacking a bit of a secondary light which it's actually present in most perspective of the hair.
Ok ok nuff said for that long stuff. The best focus here is her face and neko headphones. And again I love it! I'm honored that you've drawn her, THANK YOU!Β Β Β

Yeahhh the hands were something I struggled on. I used a model as reference and still couldn't get it quite right. That and anatomy in general is something I still need work on!
