Description The Prophecy

"In the end, there was nothing anyone could have done."

----------------------------

Everyone thinks of Romeo and Juliet when they see this. I can understand why - but would the guy be able to stab himself with a sword that big? Maybe he would. Maybe not.

Process and sketchy goodness here!

I look at this and see two siblings who perhaps had too much power? I keep thinking of wizards or demigods. I just imagine they were fighting against enemies, those who either wanted their power or those who needed them destroyed (I cant decide whether they were good and fighting against evil or perhaps just overtaken by their own power and so had to be stopped). They fought back to back but one managed to get to them and slay them both.Β

Could make for an interesting story.Β

Hmm, to me it seems like only the man has been stabbed. The woman on the end of the sword could perhaps be his lover, and she has emotionally and mentally been killed by his death. They have both been hurt, but in different ways- she perhaps wished she could have been by his side when he died and been killed alongside with him.Β

That's definitely one way to look at it.

I think about Victor Hugo's Esmeralda when I see this. Romeo and Juliet is a little..different.

They both look like some kind of grotesque butterfly. Even in death they make something.

"Grotesque butterfly", that's the best description of this image anyone's ever come up with. I love it.

Thanks, Rob! :') I tried making the blood look more natural, but then I went "to hell with it, who cares about natural when this BRIGHT RED looks so nice". I regret nothing.

And you should regret nothing.

In my opinion the primary goal is never realism, it's intrest. If realism is a means to that end, then by all means, otherwise BRIGHT RED it is

Kyendo In reply to RoboChandler [2011-11-09 23:24:40 +0000 UTC]

Definitely. Too bad it took me ages to realize it. Damn realist streak.

Yeah, definitely did the same thing myself.

Something fun one of my sculpture instructors said to me once about it: I had just finished sculpting a tiny perfect little hand with all five fingers and all of the joints on each of them. I was pretty happy with myself about it and he comes by and says (in a very thick russian accent) "everyone knows hand has five fingers, find something more interesting to say"

True words in a Russian accent are the essence of life.

Gorgeous piece. Between the art, the title, and the one-sentence description, it makes me think of something out of van Allsburg's The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Only, y'know, with blood.

The composition, lighting, and perfectly blank look on the woman's face are just amazing.

Yep, Van Allsburg's book was one of my main references for this book! I'm glad it shows. Thank you!
