Ariel is Levi's animal companion. She's a beautiful white falcon who he rescued when she was only a fledgling and she has since grown quite attached to him. She's super intelligent and can even understand complex human instruction, I think she's pretty neato.

The thing Levi is holding in his hand is a special rolled up leaf with a bright yellow cord wrapped around it. It acts as a whistle he can use to call on Ariel or other animal friends over long distances. Animals greatly trust the Essence of Life, so they're typically eager to answer his call if they're needed.
